It’s official: Tua Tagovailoa is set to return in the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8. After spending five weeks in the concussion protocol, the Miami Dolphins quarterback has been cleared to get back on the field–which his team desperately needs.
While talking to the reporters ahead of the Sunday Night Football Game, the Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel revealed that Tagovailoa passed the concussion protocol on Friday and will soon be activated from the injury reserve to play next week.
After sustaining his third recorded concussion in his NFL career, there was uncertainty surrounding his future in the league. But the signal-caller isn’t ready to give up so soon. That’s why he returned to the practice on Wednesday in a limited capacity. And after an independent neurological consultant gave him full clearance, nothing could stop him.

Despite the alarming number of concussions Tagovailoa suffered in his short time playing in the league, he has decided to not wear the Guardian Cap, which is used to provide extra protection, as he knows how to play in a way to minimize the risk of injuries.
Mike McDaniel praises Tua Tagovailoa’s recovery as he prepares for return
While talking about the most-anticipated return of the Pro Bowler quarterback, the head coach also commented on his speedy recovery. Tua participated fully in the practice on Thursday, preparing for Sunday’s game. McDaniel praised him for diverting all his focus toward his recovery instead of dwelling on the suffering.
Since his injury in Week 2, the Dolphins have been struggling for stability in the quarterback room which has affected the entire offense, and they are sitting at a bizarre 2-5 record.
On top of that, they are ranked at the bottom of the league in terms of scoring offense at 11.7 PPG. The team, as well as fans, have high expectations from the star quarterback’s return, hoping it would reignite their lost Super Bowl aspirations.
