IShowSpeed reacted after a fan shouted Lionel Messi’s name at him following Portugal’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The popular YouTuber, who has built a reputation as one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s biggest supporters, attended the knockout match hoping to see Portugal advance. Instead, Portugal’s World Cup campaign ended after Spain secured a victory with a late winner in second-half stoppage time.
Following the final whistle, IShowSpeed appeared emotional during his livestream as he processed Portugal’s elimination from the tournament. Videos from the stream showed him in tears after the result.
As he left the stadium, a fan shouted Lionel Messi’s name in his direction. Video clips that later surfaced on social media showed IShowSpeed turning back toward the fan and attempting to confront him after hearing the remark. Before the situation could escalate, members of his security team intervened and held him back.
The exchange was captured on video and quickly spread across X, where it attracted widespread attention. The footage showed security preventing any physical confrontation as they escorted IShowSpeed away from the area.

For IShowSpeed, who has frequently expressed his admiration for Ronaldo and has attended several Portugal matches in recent years, the result marked a disappointing end to the team’s World Cup campaign. His emotional reaction during the livestream and the exchange with the fan both unfolded in the immediate aftermath of Portugal’s elimination.
Cristiano Ronaldo ends his FIFA World Cup career after Portugal’s elimination
Portugal’s defeat to Spain also brought Cristiano Ronaldo’s FIFA World Cup career to a close. Before the tournament began, the 41-year-old confirmed that the 2026 edition would be his final World Cup appearance, although he has not announced when he plans to retire from professional football.
Spain secured the victory after substitute Mikel Merino scored the only goal of the match in second half stoppage time, sending Portugal out in the Round of 16.

The tournament also added another milestone to Ronaldo’s career. Earlier in the group stage, he became only the second men’s player after Lionel Messi to appear in six FIFA World Cups. His goal against Uzbekistan also made him the first player to score in six different editions of the tournament.
Despite those individual achievements, Portugal was unable to make a deep run. Ronaldo’s World Cup career began in 2006, when Portugal finished fourth. Since then, the team’s best performance came with a quarterfinal appearance in 2022, while several campaigns ended before the semi-final stage.
The loss to Spain marked Portugal’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup and officially concluded Ronaldo’s World Cup journey after six appearances across two decades. The result also ended another tournament in which Portugal fell short of lifting the World Cup trophy.
