Former two-time UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya is settling on terms that he won’t be champ anytime soon. Adesanya entered the non-title foray after almost six years and faced a swarming knockout (punches) thirty seconds into the second round of the UFC Saudi Arabia headliner. This is the first triple-fight skid slump that “Last Stylebender” finds himself in. But he’s moving on. However, fans seemingly haven’t yet come to terms with this current state.
All great stories start from a bar, somewhere. Now, a fan tears into Adesanya and takes a mickey out of his recent loss. A video on social media shows the Kiwi-Nigerian asking to describe his last fight in three words. “Washed”, “Retire”, and “Loser” were the top hits! Izzy was rolling at the answers. Will this push the former champ into something greater? Having gone on a long 12-fight title bout streak, it’s a bit different now.
Adesanya (24-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC), who has defended his UFC middleweight title five times, finds himself on the losing end of four of his last five fights. A +140 underdog, Nassourdine Imavov, defeated him the last time. Before that, he challenged Dricus Du Plessis for his middleweight gold and failed that bid. Even before that, Adesanya lost his 185-pound strap in a massive upset to Sean Strickland at UFC 293.

By his own account, Adesanya isn’t expecting to have a championship drive anytime soon. That’s all the more evident with him ending prime rivalries with former foes. Where he goes from here is anyone’s guess. But he seems to be taking it all well. Funnily enough, Izzy sent a heartfelt message to yet another fighter with his retirement bout looming.
Israel Adesanya sends heartfelt message to Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier before supposed last dance
It’s not clear when Dustin Poirier’s final UFC fight will take place. “Diamond” has been pushing for a homecoming PPV send-off in New Orleans. Poirier is fresh off a failed 155 title bid in June. Islam Makhachev defeated Poirier via submission (D’Arce choke) at around 2:42 in the last frame of their absolute thriller.

Earlier this week, a fan-made reel of Poirier’s best UFC moments was circulating on X. The defining idea was “what being a legend means.” This was in response to how bloated he is and wants his final fight to be against legends. The hype video eventually got noticed by Israel Adesanya. “Stylebender” responded by sending Poirier a touching message about that famous night in Atlanta, Georgia.
Whenever I said UFC 243 was my first tittle defense, some get salty. I consider my “Interim” tittle win a tittle win, any fight after that is considered a tittle defense and a unification. Two things can be true at the same time 🧠. @DustinPoirier and I won our belts on the same… https://t.co/aVrJDSlb7X

Adesanya won the interim middleweight title on the same night that Poirier snagged interim 155-pound gold. The former often catches flak for claiming this is where his title run starts, with the substitute strap. However, it’s something Adesanya holds close to his heart. It’s doubly important for Poirier, who did not win gold after. However, that does not make him any less legendary.
Records obtained by SBNation Network show that during a September meeting of the Louisiana State Boxing & Wrestling Commission, members discussed the UFC’s coming to New Orleans in 2025. UFC hasn’t held an event in Louisiana since Dan Henderson finished Tim Boetsch in a Fight Night headlining event in June 2015. Poirier was also part of that card, bagging a first-round TKO of Yancy Medeiros. It’d be a great thing if the Lafayette lightweight could end his run there.
