“He’s accepted his loss”- Israel Adesanya explains why he’s going to take Robert Whittaker seriously this time

Robert Whittaker will try to reclaim his belt against Israel Adesanya in a title rematch at UFC 271. The former champ got knocked out by Adesanya in their first meeting at UFC 243 back in 2019. Adesanya has defended his belt 3 times since, and he’s looking to add another feather in his cap.

Whittaker is a wonderful human being, and he doesn’t usually hold grudges against his opponents. He never talks trash about anyone, but things were different in his fight against Izzy. He claimed Izzy got in his head, and he wasn’t in a good place mentally, talking to The Howie Games, he said, “The last fight I was kind of very emotional. I was in a bad place for the sport itself, for my career. I got a bit emotional in that fight because I don’t like him very much and on top of everything else that was going on. Lost my cool. I wasn’t really fighting like I should fight, like I normally fight. Props to him, he got in my head. I just think he’s a shithead.

He then expressed his feelings towards Izzy, he states, “Lets not talk too much about Israel because I think he’s a piece of shit. He’s just a shit person. A shit person. Ah, a piece of shit is too rough. Too harsh. He’s a shithead. There that sounds better. He’s a shithead. I don’t like him, he doesn’t like me. Two cats from two different paths that don’t get along.

Adesanya’s former two opponents Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori don’t really believe that Izzy got the fair victory over him. Even though he knocked out Costa and got the unanimous decision victory over Marvin in their second meeting, these two never fail to come up with an excuse.

Whittaker, however, accepted his loss and took on contenders one after the other to earn himself a title shot. Izzy believes this trait would really help him for the rematch, talking about UFC 271 in his recent Youtube video, he said, “I mean the motivation for me is just, he’s not making excuses like Vettori or Costa. He’s accepted his loss. He finally admitted that I was in his head and he was emotional and I was like yeah, you finally admitted what I was saying this whole f**king time. So that makes me take him seriously, like he’s accepted that. So it makes me take him seriously that okay, he’s got a point to prove.”
