Once a dominating force in the UFC middleweight division, former champion Israel Adesanya has struggled a lot in recent times. His downfall truly began after suffering a devastating title loss against Sean Strickland at UFC 293 main event. Now, both fighters are looking to bounce back strongly, and Adesanya wants a rematch with the ‘Tarzan’.

Adesanya has lost the last three of his UFC bouts, and fans now doubt his ability to handle elite competition. Izzy has been actively trying to secure the Strickland rematch, but so far, all his efforts have been unsuccessful. In a recent Submission Radio interview, top middleweight Caio Borralho discussed the fight and shared his honest opinion.

To be honest, I see it the same way, because Strickland – styles make fights, and Strickland is a guy that pressures a lot, and Izzy doesn’t like to get pressured too much. He moves a lot, moves very good in the octagon, but he needs the guy to throw with everything if the guy is pressuring him. But Sean Strickland doesn’t throw everything. He touches. Maybe it could be different, but I think it’s going to be the same thing.

Borralho mentioned that Izzy likes to take his time and rely on counters during fights against aggressive opponents. However, that strategy won’t be effective against the unorthodox pressure-based striking style of someone like Strickland. In their last bout, the ‘Last Stylebender’ looked completely helpless as Strickland used his sharp jab to dominate and score points.

On top of that, since that fight, Adesanya has faced multiple defeats and has even been submitted and knocked out. Recently, the former champion was spotted training with motivational figure David Goggins, preparing himself mentally for a grand comeback. His close friend Kamaru Usman has already made his return, and now Izzy is planning to follow that same inspiring path.

Strickland, on the other hand, was completely dismantled by current champion Dricus Du Plessis at the intense UFC 312 showdown. The ‘Tarzan’ struggled to handle DDP’s relentless forward pressure and ended up losing the fight by a clear unanimous decision. After that defeat, Strickland also experienced a serious fallout with his longtime coach, adding to his recent struggles.

UFC veteran remembers kicking Sean Strickland out of the gym

Sean Strickland is known for his unapologetic behavior, often speaking without a filter regardless of the backlash or criticism received. He proudly embraces hard sparring sessions, frequently pushing boundaries and injuring training partners to maintain his aggressive, fight-ready mentality in camp. Strickland has also gained attention for beating up internet streamers during sparring, including viral clips with Sneako and others.

Despite controversy, he claims this brutal approach keeps him sharp and separates true fighters from clout-chasing influencers or online entertainers. In the past, Strickland trained as a regular sparring partner with UFC legend Dan Henderson at the famous Team Quest gym. During a recent appearance on the Overdogs Podcast, Henderson revealed he once kicked out Strickland for his constant trash-talking.

You know, he got in little argument matches with some of the guys that thought he was going too hard. Then he would go online and talk shit about him and he did it a little bit too much. Just more socially, I didn’t care what happened in the room. When you send it out to everybody to hear all that, it’s just disrespectful for your training partners, guys that are in there training with you to help you out as well. He just did it too many times, I warned him a bunch, and then finally just said, ‘Hey dude, you’ve got to go.’

However, Strickland denied the claims and stated he left the gym after Henderson’s retirement, not because he was kicked out. He admitted to mocking training partners who skipped sparring sessions to practice yoga, calling it soft behavior for fighters. Despite their past differences, both Strickland and Henderson took time to acknowledge and praise each other’s accomplishments and toughness.
