Michael Chandler came to the UFC from Bellator, where he was a three-time lightweight champion. Chandler made an immediate impact on his debut against Dan Hooker with a first-round KO. Since then, he has gone 1-3, but all of his fights have fans on the edge of their seats. Chandler has a family comprised of his wife and their two adopted children. Some sections of fans had sarcastically trolled Chandler for his choice of adoption.

Both of Chandler’s adopted children are of African-American origins, and that was the reason for the criticism from some fans. Israel Adesanya and Chandler met up with each other after UFC 300. Adesanya, known for pushing boundaries regarding jokes, posted a picture on Instagram with Chandler. In the picture, Adesanya and Chandler are in good spirits as they hug. The main critics of Chandler’s adoption of African-American kids were racist people on social media. The controversial Dillon Danis had also trolled Chandler for adoption as he alleged that the lightweight was sterile. Nonetheless, Chandler played into the joke of Adesanya as he shared it on his Instagram stories with an interesting caption as well.

Brie Willet, Chandler’s wife, is the main reason for the couple adopting children. Neither Willet nor Chandler is sterile. Willet had expressed her interest in doing so when the couple began dating. Chandler complied, and after their marriage in 2014, they adopted their first child in 2017 and their second child in 2022.
