Israel Adesanya suffered an unfortunate loss with his recent bet on Devin Haney for the Ryan Garcia fight. The former UFC middleweight champion had put his money on Haney winning the bout via KO. However, the result was wildly different from what the fighter had predicted.
Israel Adesanya is the first-ever global brand ambassador of crypto betting platform Stake. The fighter promotes it by placing substantial bets on major combat sports events. Ahead of the Garcia vs Haney fight, Izzy shocked everyone with a bet on Haney with $20,000 to win via knockout. He would have earned a little more than $40,000 if Haney knocked out Garcia.
It was already a risky bet, given that Haney is not known for his one-punch power. The fighter’s last knockout win came back in 2019. Regardless, Haney was still the favorite for the win. However, Ryan Garcia pulled out one of the biggest upsets in recent boxing history and beat Haney via majority decision.
It wasn’t the first time Adesanya had lost a major bet on Stake. Last year, during the boxing match between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury, Izzy bet a total of $20k on his African friend. However, Ngannou lost the fight by split decision, which didn’t affect Izzy much as he was more impressed by Ngannou’s performance. As the ambassador for Stake, it remains to be seen which fight Adesanya will bet on next.
Devin Haney hails Israel Adesanya as he talks about the difference between MMA and boxing
In boxing many top athletes are afraid to lose as they continuously chase the undefeated record status popularized by Floyd Mayweather. However, Devin Haney doesn’t like this mentality and shares a different opinion.
The ‘Dream’ praised the mentality of fighters in MMA. He mentioned how UFC fighters like Israel Adesanya take risks and come back even stronger after losing.
The UFC, those guys fight each other, lose, fight again, and [are] still equally as big, may even be bigger after a loss. Look at Israel Adesanya. He lost, came back, won, and is even bigger than he was before.Devin Haney via The Pivot Podcast
Haney talked about the ‘Last Stylebender’s famous comeback win versus Alex Pereira at UFC 287. Izzy bounced back from a knockout and delivered a more vicious blow in the rematch. It remains to be seen if Haney can bounce back in a similar way as Adesanya did.
