ISSF World Championships: Ramita is Junior World Champion in Women’s 10m AR
India’s Ramita Jindal won the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Junior crown at the ISSF World Shooting Championships in Cairo. Another Indian Tilottama Sen won bronze. This is yet another achievement for the country’s Junior contingent after India had won 4 golds yesterday.
In the finals Ramita defeated China’s Shen Ying 16-12. The gold medal duel was a close contest with both shooters exchanging points and being tied at 12-12 before Ramita churned out a 10.8 and 10.7 against Shen’s 9.8 and 10.6 in the 13th and 14th series to get over the line.
Ramita (262.8) had topped Qualification Stage 2 to place ahead of Shen’s 262.4. Tilottama scored 261.0, just 0.1 ahead of Chinese Liu Yafei’s 260.9, to secure bronze. Yet another Indian Nancy was eliminated in 5th place.
Tilottama scored a stunning 633.4 in Qualification 1, a follow-up from her 633.6 at the National Games. Liu was 2nd with 633; these were the only two shooters to beat the Senior cut-off of 630.
Ramita scored 629.6 to place 4th, Nancy scored 628.1 to place 7th while 8th place went to a score of 627.4. Yukhti Rajendra of India just missed of with a 9th-place finish at 627.1; another Indian Hazel was 40th with 622.3.
The trio of Ramita, Tilottama and Nancy had also won the Team Junior gold after defeating China yesterday.
Men’s 10m Air Rifle Junior
The Indian Men’s AR shooters could not match up to their female counterparts. Among the finalists Sri Karthik Sabari Raj Ravishankar finished 6th and Olympian Divyansh Singh Panwar finished 7th.
China swept the podium. Zhu Mingshuai, Du Linshu and Lei Haohan won gold, silver and bronze respectively.
In Q1 5 Junior shooters shot over the Senior cut-off of 630; Karthik, who was 2nd with 633.2, was the only Indian in the list. Zhu topped with 635.3, a score which is likely to be a new Junior World Record once ratified.
Divyansh finished 7th with 627.2; the cut-off was 626.9. India’s Vidit Jain was 10th with 626.5. Other Indians Shahu Tushar Mane (623.4) and Abhinav Shaw (623.3) were 16th and 19th respectively.
The trio of Divyansh, Karthik and Vidit had won the Team Junior gold after defeating China yesterday.
Women’s 25m Standard Pistol
India’s Rhythm Sangwan (573) won silver in this non-Olympic event. China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan (575) and Chen Yan (572) won gold and bronze respectively.
Men’s 25m Standard Pistol
India’s Vijayveer Sidhu (574) won bronze in this non-Olympic event. Ukraine’s Pavlo Korostylov (582) and Germany’s Christian Reitz (575) won gold and silver respectively.
25m Standard Pistol Mixed Team
Germany beat Korea 17-5 in the gold medal match. Ukraine beat Poland 16-4 in the bronze medal match.
Indian teams did not participate in this event.
50m Rifle Prone Mixed Team
USA defeated Ukraine 16-8 in the gold medal match. Germany defeated Norway 17-13 in the bronze medal match.
Indian teams did not participate in this event.
