“It was better,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid opens up on the reasons behind Tyreek Hill’s trade to the Miami Dolphins
The Kansas City Chiefs let go of one of their Premier wide receivers in the form of Tyreek Hill. The up and coming wide receiver, signed a massive trade deal with the Miami Dolphins to make his first switch from the Chiefs after being drafted into the franchise in 2016.
Along with Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill wrecked havoc in the NFL over the past seasons, to earn himself the tag of one of the best wideouts in the league. He was one of the key reasons why the Chiefs made it into the Super Bowl for two consecutive seasons, and were almost on the cusp of it in 2021.
The Miami Dolphins followed an aggressive approach to earn the trade deal for Tyreek Hill
While the jury is still out, on the Chiefs’ decision to let go of Tyreek Hill, head coach Andy Reid gave an explanation on why they eventually decided to trade him to the Miami Dolphins.
“You can handle it any way you want to handle it. We handled it the way we did there,” Reid said on Tyreek Hill’s departure, via Pro Football Talk’s Charean Williams. “We felt like Tyreek deserved an opportunity.
Andy Reid said that Miami Dolphins were aggressive in their pursuit of Tyreek Hill which let the Chiefs give into demands. The move of Tyreek Hill leaving has opened up a huge space in their salary cap for the upcoming season, which was also a reason why they did not pose much defence against it.
Andy Reid said, “We came in aggressive and then after we got to a point, we just said, Hey, listen, in this day and age, you have issues that you have to deal with with the cap, so we felt like it was better to allow him to go ahead and be traded. “
“You can go different routes. You can play hardball with a player and do that, or you can kind of go about the way I did. Or we did,” finished off Andy Reid.
