Garbrine Muguruza beat Coco Gauff in 3 sets

Garbrine Muguruza, two time Grandslam champion and 9th seed at the Italian Open this year defeated this 16 year old sensation from USA Coco Gauff in three tough sets in the 2nd round on Thursday. Garbrine Muguruza who is known to be an amazing player on clay had to fight till the end in order to secure a place in the Round 3 in the Italian Open. Garbrine Muguruza had earlier defeated one time Grandslam champion Sloane Stephens in straight sets in the 1st round whereas Coco Gauff defeated Ons Jabeur in the 1st round.

Garbrine Muguruza coming in good form defeating Sloane Stephens in the 1st round in straight sets had to work hard in order to beat the teenage sensation Coco Gauff in 3 sets on Thursday. Garbrine Muguruza started the match well winning the 1st set in the tiebreaker 7-6. Many thought it would be a straight sets victory for the Spaniard after she won the first set but Coco Gauff had other plans.

She claimed the second set convincingly and won 6-3. Garbrine Muguruza recollected herself in the 3rd set showing her prowess on clay court winning the 3rd set 6-3 and winning in 3 sets. There was not much to separate them today as Muguruza won 104 points whereas Coco Gauff won 100 points yet ended up on the losing side. Both the ladies served poorly during the 2nd round match with Muguruza making a total 9 double faults whereas the American making a massive 15 double faults which eventually cost her the match. Both Muguruza and Gauff got broken 5 times each during the match which shows how poorly they served during the game.

Garbrine Muguruza who after falling in the 2nd round at the US Open to Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria would be looking to do well on her favourite surface on clay this time around. She is chasing her maiden title at the Italian Open and would surely be having an eye on the French Open 2020. With Thursday’s victory she moves into Round 3 where her opponent will be the winner of Johanna Konta and Irina-Camelia Begu which will be player later on Thursday.
