In combat sports, trash-talking and banter can be an entertaining aspect. Many fighters use it to attract public attention, but sometimes the words used can cause offense, as seen in the case of Marvin Vettori. The Italian UFC fighter recently used a racial slur in response to a tweet from Dricus Du Plessis.
The South African UFC champion, Dricus Du Plessis, recently made a subtle dig at fellow middleweight fighter Brendan Allen following his defeat at UFC Paris. Allen fought the #4 ranked middleweight fighter Nassourdine Imavov last weekend in Paris and was comfortably defeated via unanimous decision. This led to a backlash against Allen from several UFC fighters, including Marvin Vettori. Interestingly, when Du Plessis criticized Brendan Allen for his loss, Vettori seemed to join in.
Marvin Vettori may have joined forces with DDP partly due to his ongoing feud with Brendan Allen. Vettori and Allen appear to have a mutual dislike for each other. As such, they recently had a heated confrontation at a casino as well. Allen, an American fighter, has criticized Vettori multiple times in the past. When Vettori had the opportunity to respond, he didn’t hesitate to do so.
