Italy captain Filippo Volandri happily agrees to understand Jannik Sinner’s ‘unavailability’ at next Davis Cup due to ‘this’ reason
Jannik Sinner won all his matches at the Davis Cup Finals, including the doubles he played with Matteo Berrettini.

Jannik Sinner defended the Davis Cup with Italy to wrap up a remarkable season. Italian captain Filippo Volandri wouldn’t care much if Sinner prefers to not participate in the tournament next year.
Italy in the Davis Cup final defeated the Netherlands 2-0 with Sinner securing a win over Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(2), 6-2 in the second match. En route to their title, Italy knocked out Argentina in the quarterfinals, and last year’s finalist Australia in the semifinal.
If Sinner told me next year that he was not available after winning two Davis Cups, it would be understandable. Having Jannik here with us was an honor and a privilege, but in the meantime, we are enjoying this moment. Then from tomorrow, we will think about the next one. There is nothing to be taken for granted, even if the guys make it almost obvious.

"Se il prossimo anno Sinner mi dicesse di non essere a disposizione dopo aver vinto due Davis sarebbe comprensibile. Avere avuto Jannik qui con noi è stato un onore e un privilegio, ma intanto ci godiamo questo momento. Poi da domani penseremo alla prossima.

With the win, Italy became the first country to defend the Davis Cup since the Czech Republic in 2013. It also became the first country to win both Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup since Russia in 2021, becoming the only fourth nation to do so since 1990.
Filippo Volandri explains why he made Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini play doubles at Davis Cup
Italy had a doubles pair, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori but despite that, Filippo Volandri made Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini play the doubles match against Argentina. Lorenzo Musetti, who played the first match of the quarterfinal tie, couldn’t beat Francisco Cerundolo.

The responsibility to keep Italy alive in the tournament fell on Sinner’s shoulder, who then defeated Sebastian Baez before pairing up with Berrettini to beat Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. Volandri took the risk of playing Sinner and Berrettini and it paid off.
Sinner-Berrettini doubles? We’ve been trying to get them to play together on the circuit for 3/4 years, but we haven’t succeeded. These guys, however, have very broad shoulders, they know how to take responsibility. I needed that at that moment, even though I had a World No. 4 doubles pair at my disposal.
Filippo Volandri told Sky Sport
In the final as well, Sinner and Berrettini led Italy past the Netherlands. Berrettini played the first match and defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets. The former World No. 6 was on the sidelines during the Davis Cup last year due to an injury.
