“It’s already got a place in the museum”- Rafael Nadal receives a customized trophy in tribute to his triumph at the Australian Open

Rafael Nadal created history at Melbourne earlier this year when he won the 2022 Australian Open title by coming back from two sets down against Daniil Medvedev in one of the longest Grand Slams finals in history. It was Nadal’s second Australian Open title and a record 21st Grand Slam title of his decorated career. After uncertainties over his future last year, when he had to undergo surgery over a potentially career-threatening injury, Nadal has bounced back in stunning fashion to win three titles on the trot this season.

For his epic triumph at the Melbourne Major, he has another trophy to add to his haul. His brand sponsor, Kia, gifted Nadal a customized trophy with the number 21, featuring words from Nadal’s other title wins among others.

“Many thanks to my @kia.worldwide friends for this trophy. Very happy for it and it’s got already a place in the @rafanadalmuseum,” Nadal posted on his official Instagram handle.

Nadal has his own museum named the ‘Rafa Nadal Museum Xperience’, located close to his academy in Mallorca. It showcases all the achievements of the 21-time Grand Slam champion’s illustrious career.

Rafael Nadal likely to make a comeback at Madrid Open

Rafael Nadal had to put a brake on his resurgent run this season after he suffered a rib injury at the Indian Wells. In the title clash against Taylor Fritz, he lost in straight sets bringing an end to his 20-match winning streak. Shortly after his defeat, Nadal said he will be out for fourth to six weeks with a rib injury. The Spaniard also announced his withdrawal from Monte-Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open.

The next major tournament is at the Madrid Open which begins on April 26th and given the timeline of his injury a return in Madrid is likely barring any more setbacks. Nadal is included in the preliminary entry list of the main draw in Madrid but it remains to be seen if he opts to skip this event and make a return at the Rome Masters, the last Masters 1000 tournament on clay, which is set to begin on May 2nd. But on the large picture, the latest injury blow has hampered Nadal’s preparation for the French Open, where he would be one of the favorites to win a record 14th French Open crown.
