“It’s crazy” Stephen Thompson reacts in awe to Chris Weidman’s recovery
Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson reveals Chris Weidman's recovery status
Former welterweight champion Chris Weidman was rumored to be back in the gym to continue his training after suffering a horrifying injury in the middle of the year. His friend and former teammate Stephen Thompson, who is the UFC welterweight division contender confirmed this news in a questionnaire with an interviewer from LowKickMMA.
Weidman suffered a leg break injury and was out for many months when his leg crumpled below him during a fight with Uriah Hall in the UFC 261. The fight lasted but for a few seconds.
Thompson stated that Weidman looks very intent on his return to the UFC and is focused on the maximum level to fight again in the octagon. He is also giving tips and helping out Thompson with his preparation and training for his fight against Belal Muhammad on 18th December.
“An injury can’t keep Chris Weidman down”, says Stephen Thompson
“The rod they put in his shin was too long, so he had to do another surgery,” Thompson stated. “It’s crazy how fast this guy heals up. You’ll see him back in the cage pretty soon. He’s back in the gym training and he’s been a part of my camp.”
Weidman looked to cement his position in divisions other than middleweight, but his campaign ended even before it took off. He tried fighting in the light heavyweight division but suffered a humiliating first-round defeat in his fight against Dominick Reyes, the former heavyweight champion.
Weidman would want to put an end to his losing streak that has started after his victory against Omari Akhmedov
Although it is still not decided when Weidman will return to the octagon or who will he fight upon his return, one thing is for sure, he is dying to prove himself not only to the world or his future opponents but also to himself.
