“It’s difficult to leave and do something else” – Khabib on his post-retirement life
It’s been almost a fortnight since “The Eagle of Dagestan” Khabib Nurmagomedov, announced his retirement. The Dagestani fighter stunned the world when he said he had promised his mother that the fight with Justin Gaethje would be his last ever fight. A barrage of reactions followed on social media once the undefeated fighter announced his retirement after putting on a marauding show against Justin Gaethje. His retirement threw open the GOAT debate, and the majority of the MMA world claimed Khabib to be the “greatest of all time”.
Khabib himself is still unable to come to terms with his retirement. He recently revealed that it has been really difficult for him, since he has been fighting all his life.
“Everything was completely different without my father” – Khabib Nurmagomedov
Speaking in a meeting with the Heads of Dagestan, Khabib threw light upon his mindset before his last fight. He said, “This fight was like no other, the emotions in this fight were completely different. Everything was completely different without my father. I was offered the fight right after everything happened. I had the decision to accept it or turn it down, nobody knew about this, or retire. Or I could come back, fight, and then retire.”
Khabib also revealed that it was really hard to announce his retirement, saying, “Now I tell the people close to me, that aren’t happy with me retiring, that even if I fought 10 more times, I’d still have to face that decision. This decision would come up when I’m 32, 34, 35. It’s a hard decision because I’ve been fighting all my life, I’ve been on the mats for as long as I remember. It’s difficult to leave and do something else, people can’t understand it but what can you do?”
Do you think “the Eagle” will come out of retirement just to make it alteast 30-0?
