”It’s possible now,” Here’s how The mothers of US Open have inspired Taylor Townsend
Serena Vika and Azarenka
American tennis player Taylor Townsend made a big upset in 2019 by beating Simona Halep at the US Open. It was also last year that she declared that she is expecting a baby. The next obvious question that arises is the challenge to balance tennis while taking care of a baby as a primary caregiver.
In a recent interview, she has spoken on the most obvious question. As a woman, after becoming a mother, the body and even the lifestyles undergoes changes. However, for a player, it is more challenging. Speaking about the same, Townsend has spoken about the various women who inspire her to take on the challenge.
Ample inspiration from Kim Clijsters and others!
The tennis world has various tennis moms. Just recently, the US Open 2020 had three semi-finals contenders as mothers. Namely, Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Tsvetana Pironkova. Hence, women can successfully manage life inside and outside the court. No wonder Townsend has cited examples of the mothers on tour.
“I actually think for me being part of this US Open at this time was so great for me to see it’s possible, to balance professional goals and aspirations with motherhood and raising a child. That was so perfectly shown this year by Serena [Williams], Victoria [Azarenka], Kim [Clijsters] and [Tsvetana] Pironkova. I know this [journey] is going to be difficult, but watching them made me really excited,” she added.
The US Open also saw the return of Kim Clijsters, the 37-year-old is a mother of three adorable kids. It was exciting for Townsend to see these women at a grand slam stage and one of them also making the finals.
The American Townsend was at the World Team Tennis season in July, while playing for the Philadelphia Freedoms. She found out about her pregnancy only after weeks of struggle with stomach discomfort and nausea.
