Alex Pereira has had a meteoric rise in his career in 2024. The Brazilian became a two-division UFC champion and has delivered outstanding back-to-back performances. This has garnered the respect of everybody in the MMA community. Former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley recently acknowledged Pereira’s historic run this year after his title fight at UFC 307.
Sean O’Malley recently sat down for another episode of TimboSugarShow with his team. Uploaded on his YouTube channel, O’Malley and coach Tim Welch did a recap of the recent UFC 307 event. They went over the main event showdown between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree Jr. This was when O’Malley expressed his admiration for ‘Poatan’s title run this year.
Three fights in seven months. That is insane. Three title fights defending the belt in seven months. That is so legendary.

Alex Pereira’s light heavyweight title run has been impressive. He claimed the UFC light heavyweight championship by defeating former champion Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 last year. Following that, Pereira successfully defended his title against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300. He followed that up with a knockout win over Prochazka in their rematch at UFC 303.
‘Poatan’ defeated Rountree Jr. in the fourth round via TKO. This marked the Brazilian’s third successful title defense in 2024. Six of the ten fights that Pereira has had in the UFC have been title fights. No one has achieved that in the UFC so far. Moreover, he became the fastest UFC fighter to attain three title defenses. With sheer dominance, O’Malley remains deeply appreciative of the Brazilian superstar.
Sean O’Malley trashes wrestlers after watching Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree at UFC 307
The main event fight at UFC 307 was intense. Khalil Rountree started strong, challenging Alex Pereira more than expected. However, Pereira’s superior striking began to wear down Rountree as the fight progressed. In the fourth round, Pereira’s powerful strikes overwhelmed Rountree. Two brutal body punches forced the referee to stop the fight at 4:32.

Sean O’Malley seemed to have enjoyed this battle between the two light heavyweights. During his recent episode on the TimboSugarShow, the former bantamweight champion dissed wrestlers in the UFC. After watching Pereira vs. Rountree, O’Malley trashed the fighting style of fighters like Merab Dvalishvili, Aljamain Sterling, and Umar Nurmagomedov.
Watching that sh*t compared to… wrestlers. … I do like wrestling. It’s one of my favorite sports to fall asleep to.

Sean O’Malley faced a tough defeat against a wrestler when he fought Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306. O’Malley lost by unanimous decision in what turned out to be a dominant display of wrestling from Dvalishvili. Many criticized the UFC 306 main event as a boring affair. It seems even O’Malley felt so after his attack on the wrestlers in the UFC.
