A list of people who have beefed with the retired Cormier
Daniel Cormier is an unquestionable legend of the sport. With his late start in MMA, the amount of accolades DC was able to secure to his name is truly unreal. However, he still does not seem to get the respect he’s entitled to.
Most of all, apart from the fans it’s not uncommon to see active fighters that often have an issue with DC.
Ever since his retirement and full-time responsibilities on the commentary booth, these attacks have only increased. So let’s have a look at 5 fighters who’ve had a problem with DC and what caused it
Fighters who Daniel Cormier beefed with post-retirement
Jorge Masvidal
While Masvidal may have you believe that the beef was purely professional what led to him targeting DC was his opinion that the Miami native shouldn’t be receiving a title shot against Leon Edwards not having won a fight since 2019. Fair point from DC but Masvidal took immense offense to it and even called the former champ’s show a “Has Been” as Ariel Helwani left the show. DC was cordial as ever in his response and even hinted that it was Jorge’s manager saying these things.
Nate Diaz
The latest entry to this list, while Nate and DC didn’t seem to have problems before this, Nate has fired the first shot in a huge way. Nate posted a video of DC crying after his second loss to Jones with the caption, “Respect your OGs” This was seemingly in response to FC’s comments about Nate not having the tools to defeat Chimaev had they faced and also his prior statements that Nate needs the UFC to sell.
Tony Ferguson
This beef was just waiting to spill over. DC has been a long time teammate of Khabib Nurmagomedov, the fight Ferguson was matched up against 5 times in his career but never met in the octagon. DC involuntarily defends Khabib at every point in his life. This has led to many arguments between El Cucuy and DC on Twitter. Recently they seemed to have picked up steam since DC has been (rightly so) voicing the same opinion as his teammate Khabib, in that Ferguson is done for and should retire before enduring further damage.
Jan Blachowicz
The former Lightweight champion actually started his beef with DC shortly after capturing the title from Dominick Reyes and even called out DC for his first title defense, DC was retired by that point and respectfully declined. However, Jan took further offense at DC for his “biased commentary” during his fight against Israel Adesanya. Jan felt like his commentary may have given viewers at home the wrong impression. DC did not respond to these callouts.
Conor McGregor
No list of MMA beefs can be complete with Conor McGregor making an entry on it. This beef too shares the same root as Ferguson in that DC is teammates with their rival Khabib. However McGregor’s rants against DC intensified prior to his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier. DC, who was drunk at the live weigh-in dhow was criticized by Conor for his unprofessionalism. DC and Conor get into verbal spats on Twitter all the time with most being deleted by Conor a short time after.
