- Iva Jovic has received detailed match analysis and advice from her idol Novak Djokovic after her matches.
- She reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, marking her best Grand Slam performance.
- Djokovic is preparing for Roland Garros despite skipping several tournaments and lacking match practice.
Iva Jovic burst onto the limelight in September last year when she lifted the Guadalajara Open by defeating Emiliana Arango. Jovic also reached the final of this year’s Hobart International, where Elisabetta Cocciaretto denied her the win.
Then this year’s Australian Open, the teenager reached the quarterfinals, which was also her best performance in a Grand Slam tournament. Her run was ended by eventual runner-up Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets.
Jovic idolized Novak Djokovic while growing up. The Serb, who reached the final of this year’s Australian Open, also advised Jovic a lot during the tournament. The 18-year-old, who made an appearance on Andy Roddick‘s Served podcast, opened up about her bond with the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
He’s texting me after matches, like analysis, or there will be the WTA or a tournament making a clip of a point that I played well, and he will be like, ‘I love what you did in this point, you should try to do that more’. Or before, specifically, I’ve played one opponent, ‘You’ve got to make sure you try to do this, with this one.’ It’s not like your average, ‘you’ve got this’, it’s unbelievably specific and detailed to the point where it’s obvious that he’s watched many of my matches.

For Djokovic, it was his first Grand Slam final since the 2024 Wimbledon, where Carlos Alcaraz denied him his 25th Major. After his Australian Open defeat, he lost to defending champion Jack Draper in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters.
He then skipped the Miami Open as well as the Monte-Carlo Masters, before withdrawing from the Madrid Open. Djokovic, in a recent interview, said he is ready to play Roland Garros without any match practice. Last year in the clay-court Major, Djokovic lost to eventual runner-up Jannik Sinner in the semifinals.
Boris Becker thinks Jannik Sinner wanted to prove himself at Indian Wells after his defeat to Novak Djokovic
Boris Becker thinks Jannik Sinner was really upset after his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open, and it motivated him to perform exceptionally well at Indian Wells. Before this season, he had never tasted success in the California desert, and in fact, he was a two-time semifinalist.

I think Jannik was really upset about losing to Djokovic in the fifth set in Melbourne; he wasn’t expecting it. The loss to [Jakub] Mensik in Doha was definitely easier to digest. He went to Indian Wells, where he’d never won, with a fist in his pocket, desperate to prove that what happened in Melbourne was an exception.
Boris Becker told La Gazzetta dello Sport
Sinner was chasing a three-peat in the Melbourne Slam and had a five-match winning streak over Djokovic before their match. But Nole, in spite of being in the twilight of his career, registered a five-set win, but he failed to repeat the result when he faced Carlos Alcaraz in the final, losing the match in four sets.
After beating Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final, the four-time Grand Slam champion beat Jiri Lehecka in the Miami Open final, becoming the eighth man to complete the Sunshine Double. His victory over Alcaraz in the Monte-Carlo Masters final made the 24-year-old the second man after Djokovic to win the first three Masters 1000 of the season.
Sinner, also the fourth man after Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer to win four consecutive Masters 1000 titles, has never progressed beyond the quarterfinals in Madrid. It’s the only Masters 1000 tournament where Sinner has never progressed past the quarterfinals.
