Jack Draper has been missing in action since the start of the North American hard-court swing. But, he’s set to return to the court at the US Open, where he reached the semi-finals last year. The British star has admitted that he’s now refreshed and motivated to challenge for the 2025 US Open.
The last time Draper played a competitive match was at the Wimbledon Championships. He reached the second round of the tournament before losing to Marin Cilic in four sets. The 23-year-old has been away since then due to an arm injury. He has also missed the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters.
He’s now seeking to return to the court at the year’s final Grand Slam event. He reached the semi-finals of the tournament last year but eventually lost to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. But this season, he has been a better player, winning his first ATP Masters 1000 title and breaking into the Top 10.
He also reached a career-high ranking of World No.4 in the ATP rankings. Previously, he had struggled on clay courts, but this year, he finally won his first match at the French Open and went on to reach the final of the Madrid Open. The World No.5 reached the quarter-finals of the Italian Open for the first time in his career.
Even though he’s likely not playing in any warm-up tournament ahead of the US Open, Draper is motivated to get back to the court. During his interview with the LTA, he revealed that being away from tour has helped him refresh and improve in many aspects of his game:
I got back to my tennis slowly to protect my arm, but it’s been a really productive few weeks now. It was disappointing to miss Toronto and Cincinnati, but I think it’s been a good period for me to reflect on things and improve. I’m really looking forward to going out to the US Open, and I’m in a great place personally and tennis-wise. I feel refreshed, motivated, and I can’t wait to get back out there.
Draper has been one of the breakout stars this season, but has struggled to be at his best during Grand Slam events this season. He reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and French Open, but managed to win just one match at Wimbledon. With only a mixed doubles event ahead of the US singles, it might be very difficult for him to challenge for the title.
Jack Draper aims to feature at the 2025 ATP Finals in Turin
Despite the fact that the US Open is the last major tournament for the year, it is not the only big title up for grabs before the season runs out. The ATP Finals, which comes up in November is also one of the big titles on tour. It features only the top eight singles and doubles players, in the ATP Finals Live Race to Turin.

Draper is currently ranked seventh in the Race to Turin, but a poor run at the US Open can make him drop out of the top 8. He revealed during the aforementioned interview that to compete at the tournament is one of his main goals this season:
The ATP Finals is definitely something I’ve got my eyes on. At the start of the year, it was one of my goals because if you make the Finals, you’ve had a very consistent season, and that was my biggest thing going into this season to maintain. Obviously, I’ve picked up an injury and missed a few tournaments, but like always, I’m going to give it my best.
Draper will now have to defend his semi-final points at the US Open, with the hope of perhaps reaching the final. If he fails to do so, he will now have to seek for a way to gain more points during the Asian swing and European hard court season.
