British No.1 Jack Draper has declined comparisons to tennis legend Andy Murray. The left-hander has had a strong 2024 season, even reaching his first Grand Slam semifinal.

However, Draper acknowledged that he has a long career ahead of him if he wants to match the achievements of the former World No.1. He shared this perspective in an interview with the well-known French sports magazine, L’Equipe.

What Andy has achieved is phenomenal. He is, for me, one of the greatest players of all time, especially since he played in the Nadal-Federer-Djokovic era. His consistency over all these years… I think it’s even unrealistic for me to project myself into everything that Andy has achieved. The thing that matters most to me is to be able to say to myself, at the end of my career, that I have reached the end of my potential.

Jack Draper said in an interview with L’Equipe

Draper’s standout moment came at the US Open this year, where he reached the semifinals but lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner in three close sets. A major issue during that match was Draper’s poor physical condition, which led to him vomiting on the court multiple times. Many tennis fans believe he needs to improve physically and tactically to reach Murray’s level.

Meanwhile, Murray is adapting to life after retiring from professional tennis at the Paris Olympics. He has maintained a strong relationship with Draper on the ATP tour, with rumors suggesting he could potentially coach the World No.18 in the future. Whether this will happen remains to be seen.

Serena Williams’ former coach recommends new job for Andy Murray

Rennae Stubbs, Serena Williams‘ former coach, has suggested a new path for Andy Murray after his recent retirement. On her podcast, Stubbs proposed that Murray could make a great coach.

Andy Murray, he would be great coaching anyone. This guy knows tennis like the back of his hand, he knows emotion. He would be great coaching anyone female or male because he has a great tennis mind. I think he would be very empathetic to a player’s tough times out of the tennis court. I think he would help anybody on tour. I don’t have a particular player who I think would be the best one.

Rennae Stubbs said on her podcast

Murray has been enjoying his free time since retiring at the Paris Olympics, even picking up golf as a new hobby. However, Stubbs thinks his strong mindset and emotional intelligence would make him a valuable coach.

Interestingly, Murray himself has mentioned coaching players on the current tour. He talked about this idea recently, though it’s not clear if he was serious. Back in July, Murray even named Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz as players he’d love to coach. Whether he’ll actually take up coaching remains to be seen.
