It remains open to debate as to who is the real winner in the Manchester United’s Erik Ten Hag – Jadon Sancho saga. It was only in September that the former Borussia Dortmund forward came to a ‘rift’ with Ten Hag regarding a social media post. The player was isolated from the first team following the incident and did not play a single minute of first team football ever since.
This eventually led to his departure from the club on loan to Borussia Dortmund in January. While Manchester United were knocked out in the group stages of the Champions League, Jadon Sancho found himself playing in a Champions League final! That being said, Dortmund lost to Real Madrid in the final and ended their season trophyless.
United on the other hand claimed a trophy in the final game of their season in the FA Cup. Recent reports state that the Red Devils plan to offload Sancho irrespective of the managerial situation at the club.
It is understood that Sancho will be let go of if an offer in the region of £40 million presents itself. There is serious interest from Dortmund as well as other clubs.
Fans react to Manchester United’s decision on the Jadon Sancho situation
With the 2023/24 season finally coming to an end, fans have received news of what the Red Devils have decided to do with Jadon Sancho. A fan commended the management’s decision, stating that this will act as a reminder that no player is above the club. Another said that it was good riddance for Sancho to leave the club, as a player who went up against the manager.
However, Sancho’s performances in the UCL this season cannot be ignored. A fan stated how the 24-year-old single-handedly did more than the entire United squad in Europe. His performances were crucial for BVB in their run to the final and in beating Paris Saint-Germain. A few reminded supporters how he won the Player of the Match award in the semi-final against PSG.
However, the Englishman received a lot of criticism from United fans for failing to impress against Real Madrid in the final. The forward was barely involved in his team’s attacking play and failed to create any significant chances throughout the game.
As Sancho’s future with United comes to an abrupt end, fans couldn’t be happier of the decision. Regardless of the same, many still can’t agree that Sancho deserved this treatment for standing his ground.
