In today’s boxing landscape, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is one of the most talked-about figures. Due to his controversial behavior, Paul has remained a prominent topic of discussion within the boxing community. Most recently, reigning WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis expressed his thoughts on the ‘Problem Child’ and one of his recent fights.

In his last fight, Jake Paul clashed against the boxing legend Mike Tyson in a pro-sanctioned bout. After eight rounds, Paul was declared the winner by unanimous decision. Most recently, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis appeared on an episode of the “A Safe Place” podcast. During the episode, he discussed various intriguing topics, including insights into Paul’s mindset during his fight against ‘Iron’ Mike in November.

I don’t think he (Jake Paul) should have fought Mike Tyson. Only because of who Mike Tyson is and the age. Like you know what, it’s certain stuff you don’t do. And he said that he didn’t try to knock him (Mike Tyson) out. Yes you did, you just couldn’t knock out.

There was significant scrutiny from several prominent figures in the boxing community. Many criticized the 28-year-old boxer for wanting to face a 58-year-old boxing legend. The 30-year age gap was noticeable during the fight, as Tyson seemed to tire after the first two or three rounds. Additionally, Davis made a pointed remark about Paul’s inability to finish off Tyson during the bout.

In terms of their relationship, Paul and Davis do not hold any personal grudges against one another. However, there have been a few occasions when the ‘Problem Child’ has poked fun at the WBA lightweight champion. In contrast, Davis rarely discusses Paul. One of the main reasons for this is the ongoing developments in Davis’ undefeated boxing career.

Is Gervonta Davis actually retiring from professional boxing?

A few months ago, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis appeared to indicate that he no longer cared about the prestigious world titles in boxing. The reigning WBA lightweight champion stated that 2025 would be his last year as an active professional boxer. However, contrary to his earlier statement, Davis recently expressed different opinions.

Throughout his illustrious boxing career, Davis has faced and triumphed over every formidable opponent that has crossed his path. Most notably, he recently blemished Frank Martin’s pristine professional record With a string of consistently outstanding performances that have captivated fans and critics alike, Davis has recently revealed that he is reconsidering the idea of retiring.

Interestingly, several of Davis’ fellow competitors believe that he still has many intriguing fights left in his boxing career. However, it remains to be seen whether the WBA lightweight champion will change his mind about retiring. As of now, Davis is scheduled to face Lamont Roach on March 1.
