Jakub Mensik faced more than just his opponent during his Roland-Garros opener on Tuesday. Taking on Frenchman Alexandre Muller in front of a partisan Paris crowd, the Czech player had to deal with loud support for his opponent throughout the match. The atmosphere intensified as the match went on.

Tensions rose during the third set, which included several disagreements between Mensik and the chair umpire. After winning the set, he was met with loud boos from the crowd. In response, Mensik mimicked Novak Djokovic’s well-known orchestra conductor gesture, further provoking the audience.

Mensik later confirmed that his celebration was inspired by Djokovic, who made a similar move during his match against Jannik Sinner in Turin in late 2023. Rather than backing down, Mensik embraced the moment and used the crowd’s reaction as motivation to close out the match in four sets.

Despite the crowd’s hostility, Mensik kept his composure and advanced to the second round. Ranked 19th entering the tournament, he will now face Portugal’s Henrique Rocha as he looks to continue his run at Roland-Garros.

One of the standout moments on Tuesday at Roland Garros was the clash between Jakub Mensik and Alexander Muller. The Frenchman put up a solid fight, but Mensik’s consistency on serve made the difference. He did not drop a single service game throughout the match. Even when Muller saved three match points late in the contest, Mensik stayed focused and finished strong.

Mensik’s stats were impressive. He struck 60 winners, fired 20 aces, and saved all three break points he faced. His aggressive yet measured play helped him take the match in four sets. It was a tightly contested battle full of long rallies and high intensity.

The final scoreline read 7-5, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 after 3 hours and 19 minutes of play. With this win, Mensik advances to the second round. He will next face Henrique Rocha for a spot in the round of 32.

Jakub Mensik serves notice with Adidas and Wilson

Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik is currently using Wilson and Adidas gear. Known as “The Menimal,” his game is built on natural power, so he opts for a racquet that prioritizes control. The Wilson Blade 98 is a popular tour choice because of its versatility, offering a mix of precision and feel for players who rely on all-court play. Whether it’s blasting groundstrokes, placing serves, or executing touch shots, this racquet handles it all with ease.

The newest version of the Blade 98 includes StableFeel bending technology, which improves stability and consistency. This added reliability gives players more confidence to take risks and aim for tighter targets. Mensik uses the 18×20 string pattern model, which produces a lower launch angle, making it ideal for flat hitting. The tighter pattern also enhances feedback and offers greater directional accuracy.

Mensik’s apparel, made entirely from recycled materials, is both lightweight and performance-focused. The fitted shirt is mapped with moisture-wicking fabric in high-sweat zones, keeping players cool and dry. Extra room in the shoulders ensures a full range of motion without discomfort. The shorts are breathable, with a shorter cut and a stretch gusset for freedom of movement. An adjustable waistband ensures a snug, customized fit.

On his feet, Mensik wears the Adidas Ubersonic 5, built for speed and agility. The shoe’s new Speedframe structure wraps the midfoot and heel for added support during quick directional changes. A tougher, more breathable textile upper improves durability and airflow. While the cushioning is firm, the low-profile Lightstrike midsole enhances court feel and responsiveness, making it ideal for fast-paced play.
