New York Knicks fans have given enough indication, albeit a bit too aggressively, of what it meant for them when Jalen Brunson and his teammates hoisted the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
This franchise has come close before, but that was 27 years ago, when the great Patrick Ewing led them. Since then, the city’s basketball fans have either become the laughingstock or ridiculed for constantly believing every year was going to be their time.
Those frustrations tend to build, and that was exactly why they took to the streets ever since the team started their 13-game winning streak in the postseason.
That run gave New Yorkers hope, and that is why they were out celebrating every single win late into the night. Some of those celebrations got out of hand, but most of them made it clear what this run meant.
Then, finally, when Brunson and his teammates finished the task of ending their 53-year title drought, those same fans partied hard until the sun came out.
Again, some of it ended up being condemned for the right reasons, while others are trying to prove it their way how much this championship means to them.
The Knicks’ first NBA ring in 53 years has caused a record-breaking shopping frenzy, according to Fanatics. New York’s championship gear set Fanatics’ all-sports 24-hour sales record, surpassing the 2025 Philadelphia Eagles.

The publication added that Fanatics, the company owned by billionaire Michael Rubin, is on pace to post its highest sales ever for a championship-winning team since the 2020 LeBron James-led Lakers and the 2016 Chicago Cubs’ World Series win.
Jalen Brunson trolls Stephen A. Smith after his apology
The Knicks winning the championship is great for the NBA, as the league can lean into what a big market such as New York can do. It is evident from the way social media and viewership ratings have gone up.

After merchandise sales trend towards an all-time record, it is clear what Jalen Brunson and his teammates have managed to do. Now, when a passionate resident gets his chance to thank the point guard, he said this.
I owe this man an apology. I am grateful for what you’ve done for this city… You won’t be hearing any more doubts from me, my brother.
Stephen A. Smith said
This was the ESPN analyst apologizing for doubting Brunson ever since he got drafted. Now, after watching him help win the city’s first championship in more than five decades, the Queens changed his stance. But as soon as Stephen A. Smith said this, Jalen Brunson replied:
We’ll see about that.

The Finals MVP’s direct troll left Smith and the rest of First Take in stitches. They know all too well how Smith operates, and Brunson’s clapback was the best way to get back at him.
Jalen Brunson jokingly dismisses Josh Hart as his ‘best friend’
Winning the NBA championship meant that Brunson and his New York Knicks would appear on quite a few shows across the country. After his appearance on First Take, the guard and some of his teammates went across to talk to Jenna Bush Hager of the Today Show.
With Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges seated beside him, Hager asked Brunson and Hart whether they could finally admit that they were ‘besties.’
Well, you always have like work best friends.
Josh Hart said
Always the serial jokester, the forward tried to suggest that he and his former Villanova teammate are ‘best friends’ at work, but he may not think about the other when they go back home. Hearing this, Brunson said.
I was ready to admit it, but after hearing that. I’m good.
Brunson said
“josh and jalen [..] being champions can u finally admit that yall are besties?” and with all the pride flags behind them this is the greatest pic.twitter.com/gZg1BDMyKF

Naturally, the two, along with Hager and Bridges, were laughing throughout this segment. Everyone is aware of how close the Finals MVP and his all-round forward are, and this joke was just another example.
