“I hate this” – 29 YO Jalin Turner shocks fans with retirement announcement after first-ever submission defeat

The main card of UFC 313 consisted of the much anticipated lightweight bout between Jalin Turner and Ignacio Bahamondes. The fight ended in the first round after the new prospect used a triangle choke to submit the American fighter. Following the loss, Turner made a shocking announcement that caught everyone off guard.

Turner was looking good in the start, but couldn’t maintain the pressure. After getting trapped, he failed to get himself out from the triangle hold, and ultimately lost the bout. Top MMA journalists have now reported that Turner has decided to hang up his gloves. 

At the age of 29, it was Turner’s second loss in a row. In his last five outings, he has won only once. That victory came against UFC veteran Bobby Green. According to the reports, the American fighter has been battling with this decision since his last loss at UFC 300 against Renato Moicano.

It seems like the American fighter has not made this call impulsively, and has thought about it for a long time. Recently, he was seen getting dropped by Chechen warrior Khamzat Chimaev while sparring. However, for fight fans, Jalin Turner’s retirement was definitely surprising.

Jalin Turner joined UFC back in 2018 and has fought some of the big names in the lightweight division. However, his career has always been inconsistent. ‘The Tarantula’ has also suffered from mental health issues after hurting his opponents. He had PTSD while fighting at UFC 300, which forced the American fighter to think about retirement.

As expected, many fans were not pleased with Jalin Turner’s retirement decision. Many pointed out his young age, and how he can turn things around with certain changes in his team and mindset. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see if the fighter remains consistent with the decision.
