Jamahal Hill got brutally flatlined by light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira at the UFC 300. Hill joined the unfortunate ‘trash talk gone wrong’ club and didn’t last for more than one round against ‘Poatan.’ However, the challenger still has some doubts regarding the whole fighting sequence leading up to the knockout.
Jamahal Hill went into detail about everything that happened during an interview with The Schmo. Hill talked about the moment when Alex Pereira knocked him out. He disputed claims about a groin strike and commented on Pereira capitalizing and setting up the finish.
In the moment… I stopped, and you can see Alex continues to close the distance on me. I understand it’s a cold moment… it wasn’t a groin strike, and him closing the angle on me while I’m tryna check and make sure he’s good… it was a gritty competitor move.Jamahal Hill via The Schmo
Referee Herb Dean immediately tried to step in when he assumed the kick from Hill landed on Pereira’s groin area. However, to everyone’s surprise, the Brazilian causally waved off Dean and continued fighting. Hill and Pereira were also seen touching gloves before resuming the fight in the clip. After that, it didn’t take Pereira much time to drop Hill on the canvas.
Going into the fight, Hill claimed he would expose Pereira and destroy the Brazillian. However, the reality was extremely distant from the dream. Hill remains adamant about having a rematch and will step back into the octagon during the International Fight Week card. A win could put him back in the title picture, if not the next title contender.
Jamahal Hill rejected UFC main event to get a feature on the Conor McGregor PPV card
After his brutal knockout loss at UFC 300, Jamahal Hill has already planned to bounce back. The UFC recently announced Hill’s next fight with rising light heavyweight fighter Khalil Rountree at UFC 303. However, Hill rejected a main event spot to feature on the International Fight Week card.
Ahead of the fight, Hill revealed wanting to have a spotlight on himself by being part of Conor McGregor‘s fight card. McGregor returns after three years of inactivity and the PPV card has much hype around it. As such, Hill wanted to feature alongside McGregor.
(Conor) is THE star in the game... I was offered a main-event to fight Khalil...I was like nah, the Conor card is right there, it's good enough and I definitely want that. So I turned down a main-event to get on this.Jamahal Hill via MiddleEasy
McGregor will face Michael Chandler in his UFC comeback. Fans have already shown enormous interest in the card. The rivalry between Chandler and McGregor will be settled at UFC 303. It’s undoubtedly a wise move on Hill’s part, who presumably hopes to capitalize on the excitement for his gain.
