Jamahal Hill will fight Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 303. This announcement came just days after his loss against Alex Pereira at UFC 300. Hill addressed this matchup on his YouTube channel and he says he is ready to show the #8 ranking contender what the top of the division looks like.
Jamahal Hill recently sat down to address his fight against Pereira at UFC 300 on his YouTube channel. He also talked about his upcoming fight against Khalil Rountree at UFC 303.
We on to Khalil Rountree. He's a good fight, he's on the hottest streak in the division at this point. He's a five-fight win streak, ready, hungry, he's been calling for his shot at the top. Now he get the top dog in the division. And I'mma show him what the top of this division is really about.Jamahal Hill via his YouTube channel
Jamahal Hill said regardless of what anybody says he is still at the top of the light-heavyweight division. Before his UFC 300 loss, Hill was on a four-fight winning streak and had grabbed the light-heavyweight title at UFC 283 before having to renounce it because of injury.
This is an interesting matchup coming after a loss. For all know, Hill wants a title rematch against the champion or at least a fight that would put him in place for another chance. Hill ranks #3 in the light heavyweight division while Khalil Rountree Jr. is #8. So a win at UFC 303 is unlikely to place Jamahal Hill at the no. 1 contender position. Hill was left embarrassed after his first-round KO, especially after his disrespectful behavior toward Poatan in the build-up.
Jamahal Hill says he took no damage against Alex Pereira at UFC 300
Alex Pereira knocked down Jamahal Hill three minutes into the first round of UFC 300. However, according to Hill, he took no damage from Pereira’s shots. Hill made this statement when he addressed his loss against Pereira on his YouTube channel.
Hill said he was fully coherent the whole time. He even claimed to be trying to defend during the ground and pound after he got knocked down. This is not true as it was evident the fighter was out and unable to defend when the referee stepped in to save him.
Right before the knockdown, Hill had shot a leg kick to Pereira’s body that landed below the belt. While he claimed that he committed no foul, most of the internet does not seem to believe the former champion. Herb Dean even came in to call for a time out but Poatan gestured him to step back before landing that decisive left hook.
