Ja’Marr Chase created history in 2024 by becoming the first Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver to record a triple crown. Chase led the league in receptions (127), receiving yards (1708 yards), and 17 touchdowns. But that’s not even close to the number he wants to achieve in his NFL career.

In a recent interview with CBS Sports, Chase claimed that the 2,000 receiving yards barrier will eventually be broken.

The next three years, somebody has to do it.

Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson came close in 2012. However, he fell short by 36 yards (1964). Cooper Kupp is next on the list. He secured 1947 yards in 2021 when the Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl.

Chase is confident that it’s only a matter of time before he accomplishes the unprecedented milestone. If he fails, then Chase feels there’s one other athlete who can cross the threshold.

If it’s not me… Me and Justin [Jefferson], of course.

Chase and Justin Jefferson shared the same LSU jersey in college with current Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Jefferson ended up with the Minnesota Vikings and has constantly ranked in the top three receivers ever since.

This latest development doesn’t look good for Tyreek Hill. The Super Bowl winner’s hunt for the elusive 2000 yards isn’t a well-hidden secret. Hill posted his best stats in 2023, gaining 1799 yards. The following year was a total disaster for the Dolphins, but it hasn’t stopped the Cheetah from trying to make his dream a reality.

Ja’Marr Chase beats Justin Jefferson in ESPN’s best receivers list

Veteran ESPN analyst Jeremy Fowler released his list of the best wide receivers in the league on Wednesday after speaking with several NFL executives, coaches, and scouts. The Bengals’ Chase topped the list, followed by Jefferson, while Hill was third, followed by the Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb, and the Eagles’ AJ Brown rounded out the top five.

Fowler noted that Chase earned around 70% of the first-place votes after producing the fifth triple crown of the Super Bowl era. One NFL executive argued that Jefferson is the best route runner, but Chase is the overall playmaker that NFL defenses fear the most.

Honestly, it comes down to Chase is a b— to cover. We are super aware of him and have played him a bunch and been torched by him a bunch.

An NFL exec told Fowler

Chase has played four seasons in the NFL, crossing 1000 yards each time. 2024 may have been his best season in terms of numbers, but his rookie season was special as well. He averaged 18.0 yards per carry (the best of his career) en route to playing in the Super Bowl.

Despite finishing on the losing side, his skills were on full display. Burrow believes Chase is “already one of the best players of all time.”

If you’re a quarterback, and you’re not gonna throw to that guy, then you shouldn’t be the quarterback of the team anymore.

Joe Burrow said on an episode of Quarterback Season 2

The Bengals tied down Ja’Marr Chase to a long-term contract during the offseason. He signed a four-year $161 million contract extension ($40.25 million per year) with $112 million guaranteed.

As per Spotrac, his contract includes a base salary of $8.07 million, a roster bonus of $10 million, a restructuring bonus of $22 million, and a workout bonus of $100,000. Chase has a cap hit of $23.75 million and a dead cap value of $74.9 million.
