World No. 42 Jan-Lennard Struff has chosen Jannik Sinner over Carlos Alcaraz as the best player of 2024. The two tennis stars gained significant attention this year by winning two Grand Slam titles each.
However, Struff believes Sinner’s consistency extended beyond Grand Slam victories. The German highlighted Sinner’s success in other key events, such as the Davis Cup and ATP Finals, as factors that set him apart from Alcaraz.
I would say Sinner, he won two Grand Slams, that’s incredible. Alcaraz also won two, so it’s one or the other, but Sinner also won the Davis Cup at the end (in addition to the Masters, editor’s note). Jannik is so consistent from the baseline. He hits so hard that you try to find a weakness in him, but he doesn’t really have one. It’s very difficult.
Jan-Lennard Struff said on Tennis Head
Sinner is undoubtedly the most improved player of 2024, becoming the first player from his country to reach the World No. 1 ranking. He achieved this milestone in June after the conclusion of Roland Garros.
Alcaraz was also in the race for the No. 1 spot. However, a poor second half of the season, following his Olympic gold medal loss in Paris, derailed his chances. He finished as World No. 3, behind Sinner and Alexander Zverev.
Jannik Sinner enjoys off-season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Jannik Sinner ended his 2024 ATP Tour season in style by winning the Nitto ATP Finals. On Sunday, the Italian star wrapped up the Formula 1 season as well. He waved the chequered flag at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, marking the final race of the F1 calendar.

The World No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings had a busy weekend. He met F1 champion Max Verstappen and attended the F2/F3 Prize-Giving event. Sinner also enjoyed the excitement of the race and the festivities surrounding it.
Other tennis players joined the fun in Abu Dhabi. Grigor Dimitrov, Arthur Cazaux, Aryna Sabalenka, Paula Badosa, Elena Rybakina, and Sorana Cirstea were there. Dimitrov even posted a photo with actress Eva Longoria on Instagram.
Sinner has crossed paths with F1 stars before. Earlier in the year, he met Carlos Sainz in Monte-Carlo, where Sainz watched him play courtside. Drivers George Russell and Lando Norris also attended the clay-court Masters 1000 tournament in April.
