Jannik Sinner has lost five times to his rival Carlos Alcaraz, with the most painful of them coming at the 2022 US Open and 2024 French Open.
The 22-year-old reached his first US Open quarterfinals two years ago with solid wins against Daniel Altmaier, Christopher Eubanks, Brandon Nakashima, and Ilya Ivashka. However, Carlos Alcaraz proved difficult to break down. They fought for five hours and 25 minutes and the match ended at 2:50 am. Sinner lost 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3 while the Spaniard eventually went on to win the title and also become the youngest ATP World No.1.
Sinner most recently faced Alcaraz in the semifinals of the French Open in June, with their head-to-head standing at 4-4. The Italian, who lost to Alcaraz at Indian Wells earlier in the year, had to endure another defeat, going down 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.
Recalling the two defeat at the Majors, Sinner stated that he cried after both matches. He however stated that those emotions showed how much the sport meant to him.
I cried after losing to Carlos at the US Open, and also a little bit at Roland Garros. There are always moments when you feel emotions that you don’t want to experience in the locker room, sometimes in transport or even alone in a hotel room. It means that you are interested in this sport. It means that you want to reach this level.

Defending champion Alcaraz and Sinner are likely to face each other at Wimbledon this year as they find themselves in the same group in the draw. The Italian, who reached the semifinals at SW19 last year, will be hoping to go the distance this season and clinch his second Major.
