An emotional Jannik Sinner admitted that his success in 2024 had surprised him, especially after winning his first ATP Finals title in front of his passionate fans in Turin. Despite facing a doping investigation that could still result in a suspension, the World No.1 has improved throughout the season.
Sinner’s 6-4, 6-4 win over fifth seed Taylor Fritz gave him an impressive 26 wins in his last 27 matches. This remarkable run includes his second Grand Slam title at the US Open, two Masters 1000 titles, and now the ATP Finals.
Honestly, I have surprised myself the whole year at times but in my mind I know how much work I put in and how many sacrifices I have made to be in this position. I just try to play in the present moment and it was a very special moment for me to win here – very important from my side. I know the season I’ve had. I got here one week early trying to understand the speed of the court, trying to work out what works best for me here, so it’s a very special feeling, special moment. I played some very, very good tennis throughout this whole week and at times I couldn’t have played better.
Jannik Sinner said in an interview with Sky Sports
In Turin, Sinner was dominant, winning all five of his matches without dropping a set. His victory makes him the first Italian to win the ATP Finals. He had already defeated Fritz in the group stage, and once again, came out on top when it mattered most.
I’m very happy how I handled every situation on and off the court. Sharing this feel is amazing. It’s amazing. It’s been an amazing week – my first title in Italy and it’s something very, very special. I tried to play the best possible tennis I can. That was the key. It was a very high-level tournament from my side and at times I couldn’t play better so I’m very happy.

Sinner broke Fritz’s serve for the fourth time at 3-3 in the first set, then sealed the win with a break in the fifth game of the second. Fritz, the first American finalist since 2006, was unable to overcome the top seed, as he did in the US Open final. Sinner now turns his focus to the Davis Cup, where he will help Italy defend their title.
Jannik Sinner beats Carlos Alcaraz in an incredible milestone after winning ATP Finals
Jannik Sinner has held the World No.1 ranking for 23 weeks and is guaranteed to stay on top until after the 2025 Australian Open. The 23-year-old became the first Italian to reach No.1 in June, overtaking Novak Djokovic. His rise was fueled by his Australian Open win, along with titles in Rotterdam and Miami earlier this year.

At the ATP Finals, Sinner started with a 3,015-point lead over Alexander Zverev (10,330 vs. 7,315). By reaching the final, he earned another 1,000 points, bringing his total to 11,330. Zverev, who lost in the semi-finals, remains at 7,915 points. This ensures Sinner’s top ranking through January, even if he doesn’t defend his Australian Open title.
Sinner will enter the 2025 season with at least a 3,415-point lead over his rivals. Zverev has 1,236 points to defend early in the year, while Carlos Alcaraz, ranked third with 7,010 points, has only 500 points to defend. However, the gap between Sinner and Alcaraz is too large for the Spaniard to close anytime soon.
Sinner is projected to remain World No.1 until the end of February, adding 15 more weeks to his tally. This will take him to 38 weeks at the top, surpassing Alcaraz’s 36 weeks. He will then aim to overtake Ilie Năstase (40 weeks), Andy Murray (41), and Gustavo Kuerten (43) on the all-time leaderboard.
