It’s officially off season, which means it’s time for the tennis players to rest and recharge following a grueling 11-month sports action. There’s one stop several top players have chosen for their vacation. It’s the Maldives.

Aryna Sabalenka was in such a hurry to fly away to the island that she requested the reporters to quickly ask questions at the press conference following her straight-set defeat to Elena Rybakina in the title clash of the WTA Finals. Daniil Medvedev also posted several pictures on his social media from his trip to the Asian island nation.

Recently, during an episode of the Nothing Major podcast, former player Sam Querrey revealed how Maldives tourism is targeting tennis players, who get free holidays in the resorts in exchange for advertising.

Even Jannik Sinner headed off to the Maldives for the off-season. On the plane, he bumped into none other than his rival, Alexander Zverev, for whom the getaway spot is also none other than the Maldives.

I guess it’s maledives season for everyone hu?

Zverev and Sinner reunited following their ATP Finals clash. They met in the round-robin stage, where Sinner clinched the win in straight sets- also his fifth straight win over the German. Thanks to his four victories over Sascha this season, Sinner now holds a 6-4 head-to-head lead.

Zverev did not have a smooth campaign this year as the three-time Grand Slam finalist ended the season with one ATP 500 title, which he won at the Munich Open against Ben Shelton. The 28-year-old played three more finals, losing to Sinner at the Australian Open and Vienna Open and to Taylor Fritz at the Stuttgart Open.

Alexandr Dolgopolov calls Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz less solid than the Big 3

Alexandr Dolgopolov, a former player from Ukraine, has little interest in tennis because he finds the modern players are weaker than the ones who played during the Big 3 (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic) era. According to Dolgopolov, even Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have not at all reached the level of the Big 3.

Hardly watch tennis these days, but how I see it compared to our age: Sinner/Alcaraz best days probably equal to big 3, overall less solid than any of big 3. Top 3-15 much weaker than our age. 15-50 about similar. 50-100 modern players are stronger than our age. Peace.

Only Djokovic remains from the legendary trio who is yet to hang up his racket. The 24-time Grand Slam champion last lifted a Major at the 2023 US Open, following which, he played just one Grand Slam final, at Wimbledon last year, losing that match to Alcaraz in straight sets.

It was the six-time Grand Slam champion who stopped him from reaching the US Open final this year. Sinner knocked him out of the French Open and Wimbledon, while an injury forced him to retire mid-match at the Australian Open.

As the dominance of the Big 3 era gradually diminished, Sinner and Alcaraz started to provide an ample amount of entertainment, thanks to their tight battles, the most memorable of which they played in the French Open final. Despite a 2-0 lead and three championship points in the fourth set, Sinner ended up losing the match.

In their head-to-head matchups, Sinner improved his record to 6-10 following their ATP Finals clash. Apart from the French Open and the ATP Finals, the World No.1 and the World No.2 met in the finals of Wimbledon, Cincinnati Masters, and the US Open, with Sinner winning only at SW19. Sinner took home six titles from 10 finals, while Alcaraz played 11 finals and won eight titles, also the most on the ATP tour this season.
