World No.1 Jannik Sinner ended his stellar tennis season with a victory at the ATP Finals for the first time in his career. The 23-year-old comfortably dispatched Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 to win the season-ending championship.

The Italian was dominant right from the start, as he had been throughout the ATP Finals. He broke Fritz once in each set and served exceptionally well to secure the first ATP Finals title of his career.

For Fritz, it was another missed opportunity. The American became the first finalist at the ATP Finals since James Blake in 2006. However, the common denominator is that both lost to the World No.1 in the final (Blake lost to Roger Federer in the 2006 final).

Fritz was also seeking revenge for the US Open final, which he had lost in straight sets to Sinner. Additionally, he suffered another straight-set defeat to the World No.1 during the Round Robin stage of this tournament.

By winning the first set against Taylor Fritz in the finals of the season-ending event, Sinner ensured he had won at least one set in each of the 76 matches he played this year. Moreover, he concluded the season by reaching at least the quarterfinal stage in every tournament he participated in.

Sinner has joined Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as players to win both hard court Grand Slams and the ATP Finals in the same season. Federer and Djokovic have achieved this feat multiple times in their careers.

Sinner has also improved his head-to-head record against Fritz to 4-1. The American’s only win over the Italian came at the 2021 Indian Wells, which was their first meeting.
