Jannik Sinner has reached a third consecutive showdown match at the ATP Finals. The Italian, playing in front of his adoring crowd in Turin, blasted past Alex de Minaur in straight sets to get to the final.

Now, he is on the cusp of having another big-time clash with Carlos Alcaraz. This will be potentially their first matchup since the US Open final, where Alcaraz triumphed in four sets. Looking for revenge, Sinner believes that it is a good thing to see where his level is at in the closing stages of the season. Sinner said in his post-match press conference:

Well, honestly every matchup is different. We saw it in Rome and Paris. Even if it’s the same surface, it can change. I’m of course happy first of all to finish my season here, another final, has been an amazing year for me. I’m looking forward for tomorrow. These are matches I look up to. These are matches I look forward to. Also to see for me where my level really is but in the same time it’s great before the off-season to have this matchup.

However, despite the hype of the match, Sinner is refusing to ignore the kind of match Felix Auger-Aliassime can play against Alcaraz. The Italian believes that he can be a tough rookie for the Spaniard based on his own tough clashes in recent weeks. Sinner added:

He still has a match to go against Felix. I played against him earlier this week. It’s a very tough, tough opponent. He loves to play indoors, as we know. Let’s see who wins. Anyway, I’m happy to be in the final. Then we see. Of course, I feel comfortable on indoor hard court, as I know. Then we see. Just hope for a good match.

Despite Auger-Aliassime’s form in the second half of the season, Sinner would be happy to face the Canadian instead of Alcaraz. After all, the Spaniard has had his number since the start of 2024, winning seven of their eight encounters.

Carlos Alcaraz gets booed by Italian fans at the ATP Finals

Carlos Alcaraz is used to warm support around the world, but he experienced a different atmosphere in Turin. When he arrived at the Inalpi Arena for his semifinal against Felix Auger-Aliassime, the crowd reacted sharply.

Fans were celebrating Jannik Sinner’s win over Alex de Minaur, which secured the Italian a place in Sunday’s final. When Alcaraz appeared on the big screen, many in the arena booed to show their support for their home favorite.

Sinner and Alcaraz have a friendly relationship away from matches and often practise together. Commentators suggested the boos were playful, but the Spaniard may still face a tough crowd if he threatens Sinner’s hopes.

Sinner’s victory over De Minaur extended his indoor winning streak to 30 matches. Based on current form, Alcaraz may be the only player capable of slowing the Italian’s impressive run.

Jannik Sinner’s doping ban costs him the No.1 ranking

World No.2 Jannik Sinner accepted a three-month suspension to settle his doping case early in 2025, and at first it seemed like a light penalty. He had tested positive for a banned substance at the 2024 Indian Wells Masters and served the ban before the Italian Open.

He avoided a longer suspension through an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency, which allowed him to keep playing the Grand Slams. After returning, he quickly regained form, reaching the French Open final and then winning Wimbledon along with several more titles later in the season.

The timing of the ban drew criticism, including strong comments from Novak Djokovic, who questioned how the case was handled. Although many believed Sinner escaped with a mild punishment, the long-term impact has now become clear.

Since Sinner missed three Masters 1000 events, he lost valuable ranking opportunities. This played a role in Carlos Alcaraz finishing as year-end world No. 1 for the second time. Alcaraz received the honor in Turin, and Sinner will surely aim to reclaim that position next season.
