After parting ways with Ivan Lendl, Andy Murray wanted to add Jannik Sinner‘s coach, Darren Cahill, to his team back in 2014. But Cahill couldn’t commit to being in Murray’s team as a full-time coach.

The reason was that he had a lot of commentary duties. Murray’s mother, Judy Murray, talked about Cahill’s role during The Sit Down podcast.

When Andy Murray was looking for someone new to guide him on the coaching side, he took advice from Darren Cahill, and it was Darren Cahill who had suggested Ivan to Andy some years before, and that had turned out to be a relationship that bore a lot of fruit for Andy.

It was Cahill who suggested Amelie Mauresmo for his next coach. Judy recalled her son’s first meeting with the current French Open tournament director and how he enjoyed the fact that she was listening to him a lot.

Darren was an advisory coach on the Adidas programme when Andy was an Adidas athlete, so he had access to Darren for quite a number of months, not full-time, but quite a lot, and he really enjoyed working with him. But Darren wasn’t available to do that because he was doing a lot of commentary work at that time.

Judy Murray added

Murray was later shocked by the reaction from his fellow players, and then he realized that if he wasn’t as successful while working with Mauresmo, she would be facing a lot of criticism. Judy said working with Mauresmo opened the three-time Grand Slam champion’s eyes as he understood how tough it is for women to work at the top.

Murray worked with the two-time Grand Slam champion from 2014 to 2016. Under her, the former ATP World No.1 clinched seven titles, including two Masters 1000 titles.

Frances Tiafoe sends a warning to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Frances Tiafoe hopes to become the third guy to challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Since 2024, every Grand Slam title has been won by them as they have split the last eight Majors between them.

Apart from the World No.1 and World No.2, the player who has performed consistently this season in Majors is Novak Djokovic. The 24-time Grand Slam champion featured in the semifinals of all four Majors, giving the walkover to Alexander Zverev in Melbourne, losing to Sinner in London and Paris, and to Alcaraz in New York. During an interview with Olympics.com, Tiafoe said Djokovic cannot join the two youngsters to form another Big 3 because of his age.

I’m like, yo, who’s that third guy? Who’s that fourth guy? Novak doesn’t count. He’s 40. I love him, but he doesn’t count. He’s 40. He’s a GOAT; he’s the best player of all time. He’s not with those guys. Who is that other guy or two to be there and maybe beat these guys? Who are those guys? And there’s a bunch of guys who can be that guy, right? So that’s really motivating me.

Tiafoe, however, lost in his opening-round match of the Japan Open, losing in three sets to Marton Fucsovics. Alcaraz is also featuring at the Japan Open and clashed with Sebastian Baez to make his debut in the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo.

Sinner is in Beijing for the China Open, where he suffered a three-set defeat to the six-time Grand Slam champion last year. The four-time Grand Slam champion reached the final of every Major this season, becoming the youngest man in the Open Era to do so. He is chasing his third title of the season after his Australian Open and Wimbledon wins. Alcaraz is bidding for his ninth title of the season.
