Belarusian tennis ace Aryna Sabalenka and Italy’s Jannik Sinner emerged as the women’s and men’s singles champions at the 2024 Cincinnati Open, respectively. While Sabalenka beat Jessica Pegula in the final, Sinner defeated Frances Tiafoe in the title clash. When asked about their celebration plans, both players had very different answers.

Sabalenka was quick to announce that she will have tequila or margarita. The Belarusian advocated for the latter saying it is a light drink and a little sweet too, and it will do the job for her.

You know, I'm getting old. There is no more sweets. There is tequila. You got to try margarita. That's, that's the best drink. You have to drink margarita. Really great one and it’s not that heavy. And it’s a little bit of sweetness so it’s kind of like I’m covering both. So I think that’s my treat after the win.

Meanwhile, Sinner revealed that he had entirely different plans. The 23-year-old, who claims not to be fond of drinks, said he will have some sweets to celebrate his win in Cincinnati.

I don’t know yet. Look, I haven’t thought about this – it’s going to be, for sure, a little treat but let’s see. I… I like sweets, so you know, for me that. I am not a guy who drinks. I am more happy when I have a Coke or something easy. But I enjoy it more just to have a good company – that for me is much more important than the rest.

Both Sinner and Sabalenka have big wins to celebrate as they bagged their maiden Cincinnati Open titles. The two players won the Australian Open in their respective categories this year and will now head into the US Open with a Masters title in their bags.

US Open awaits Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka

Having clinched the title in Cincinnati, Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka have the momentum heading into the US Open. The two players started the season with big wins in Melbourne and now will be hoping to go all the way at the year’s last Grand Slam.

Sinner and Sabalenka have been troubled by injuries recently and they even skipped the Paris Olympics recently. Upon their return to action, they failed to make an impact straightaway in the tournaments they played. Nevertheless, they now have bagged the title in Cincinnati.

Sinner heads into the US Open, where he will hope to do better than last year, when he made a Round of 16 exit after defeat to Alexander Zverev. Sabalenka, meanwhile, will be eager to go one step further from last season, when she lost to Coco Gauff in the final.
