In Short
  • Jannik Sinner has won four Grand Slam titles and is currently ranked World No. 2 in tennis.
  • He expressed in a YouTube video that he would have pursued kitchen skills with his father instead of skiing.
  • Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are competing for the top spot in the Monte Carlo Masters, with Sinner closing the points gap significantly.

World No.2 Jannik Sinner is enjoying a glorious tennis career. The Italian has won four Grand Slam titles, seven Masters 1000 titles, and two ATP Finals. However, things could have been very different if he had not chosen tennis.

In his recently uploaded unfiltered YouTube video, Sinner said that he would have pursued kitchen skills alongside his father. This is interesting because many people expected the answer to be skiing, yet Sinner has chosen a different path. Sinner said in his Unfiltered YouTube video:

Realistically, I would maybe work on a kitchen with my dad. He’s a cook, he used to be a cook. I couldn’t see myself being a pro ski racer because of certain reasons. I believe something realistic could be working in the kitchen with my dad & having bigger ambitions there.

Sinner has shown a passion to be a top skier. He has been praised by many of the world’s skiers, including Lindsey Vonn. Recently, after Vonn had an unfortunate accident during her race, Sinner was among the athletes to express concern about her injury.

However, he has chosen tennis, and the tennis world can only thank him for that. The reason is that at 24, he has already won more than what most players dream of. And looking at the speed at which he’s going, the recent Sunshine Double won’t be the last trophies in his cabinet.

Darren Cahill catches Jannik Sinner off-guard in the Unfiltered Video

Darren Cahill, Jannik Sinner’s coach, has been instrumental in the Italian’s success. However, there was one moment in which he found a weakness in the current World No.2. Cahill, in Sinner’s unfiltered YouTube video, asked the Italian about the number of times he had failed his motorbike license.

Sinner, being shy as he normally is, initially refused to answer the question. However, he confirmed that he had failed it three times. This is interesting because Sinner has been a huge fan of Formula One and NASCAR. He had spoken about F1 multiple times during his Sunshine Double run.

Sinner has also said many times that his brother is a huge F1 fan. He acknowledged him after winning the Wimbledon final last year against Carlos Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner set for World No.1 battle

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner both enter the Monte Carlo Masters with a chance to finish the event as the top-ranked player in the world. Sinner, who recently won the Sunshine Double, has significantly reduced the points gap between himself and Alcaraz.

Heading into the tournament, Alcaraz leads by 1,190 points, but Sinner has the opportunity to erase that margin in just one event. Since Sinner did not compete last year due to a doping ban, any progress he makes this year will add fresh points to his tally, while Alcaraz can only defend or lose points from his 2025 victory.

The rankings situation sets up intriguing possibilities. If Sinner reaches the semi-finals, he positions himself within striking distance of the No. 1 spot. Should he advance to the final, Alcaraz would need to win the entire tournament to prevent the Italian from overtaking him.

Despite the looming threat of losing his No. 1 status, Alcaraz and his team are not overly focused on rankings. His coach, Samuel Lopez, emphasized that Monte Carlo is being treated more as a preparation event for the clay season, particularly with Roland Garros in mind.
