World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has remained unbeaten throughout the group stage at the ATP Finals. Following his 6-3, 6-4 win over Daniil Medvedev, the Italian finishes at the top of his group, with his semifinal opponent yet to be determined.

Delivering peak performances in key moments has been a consistent theme for Sinner in 2024. In his post-match interview, he shared the reasons behind his strong form this season.

Sinner entered the tournament after withdrawing from the Paris Masters. The 23-year-old reportedly experienced virus symptoms in the lead-up to that event, causing him to withdraw from his opening match at the last minute.

I don’t know. I’m here, I know what I’ve achieved this year. I try to step on court with a good mindset. I have a great team behind me. I have beautiful people around me who support me daily. Which for me is even more important. Tennis wise I just try to enjoy it here at least while I’m on the court. When I’m off the court I try to prepare in the best possible way for every match. The atmosphere is amazing. I’m just trying to play some good tennis.

However, he has shown no signs of losing form or momentum at the ATP Finals. Sinner is aiming to win the Finals for the first time in his career, after finishing as runner-up to Novak Djokovic last year.

Jannik Sinner sends Daniil Medvedev packing at the ATP Finals

Jannik Sinner continued his winning streak at the Nitto ATP Finals on Thursday (November 14), defeating Daniil Medvedev with a solid 6-3, 6-4 performance. This victory capped off a perfect 3-0 record in the round-robin stage, placing Sinner at the top of the Ilie Nastase Group for the second year in a row. With this win, Sinner also ended Medvedev’s tournament run.

Taylor Fritz joined Sinner in the semi-finals after securing a critical win over Alex de Minaur. Fritz now advances to the knockout stage for the second time, having reached the semis in his 2022 ATP Finals debut. Medvedev had tried to mount a comeback in the second set, winning three games in a row, but Sinner regained control and closed the match in 73 minutes. With this result, Sinner now leads their head-to-head series 8-7.

Sinner is chasing a rare achievement: joining legends like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as one of the few men to win the Australian Open, US Open, and ATP Finals in the same year. His next opponent will be the runner-up from the John Newcombe Group, where Alexander Zverev currently leads, followed by Casper Ruud. However, Friday’s matches will determine the final lineup, with Zverev facing Carlos Alcaraz and Ruud taking on Andrey Rublev.

Sinner’s powerful serve has been key to his rise to No. 1 in the ATP rankings. In Thursday’s match, he lost only two points on serve in the first set. This, combined with Medvedev’s 16 unforced errors, helped the Italian secure a decisive win.
