Carlos Alcaraz brings the firepower in the game, said Jannik Sinner, who called himself more of a solid player. Both of them are in Shanghai for the ATP 1000 Masters event following the China Open final, which Alcaraz won after battling it out for more than three hours against the 23-year-old Italian.

Sinner will play his first-round match against Japanese veteran Taro Daniel on Saturday (October 5). Before that, Alcaraz will kick-start his campaign against Shang Juncheng. Ahead of the match, Sinner explained what makes him and Alcaraz different players.

I said off the court we are quite similar. On the court, we are different. He’s the one who brings the firepower, the hotshots, he involves the crowd, he’s more different. I’m more like a solid player, quite calm. It’s like fire and ice so…but it’s a nice combination. It also shows that everyone is different.

Alcaraz has won all three encounters with the World No. 1 this season and took a 6-4 lead in their overall head-to-head encounters. This season, apart from the China Open final, they met in the semifinals of the French Open and the Indian Wells Masters.

We were fighting against each other – a three-hour match; he could win, but in the end, I got the win. And then, two hours later, we are on the same plane, having some laughs, making jokes, talking about life. And it’s like, we’re acting like nothing happened before.

Carlos Alcaraz told Tennis TV

The four-time Grand Slam said that tennis is very different from other sports as he feels a good relationship between players off the court is impossible in other sports.
