World No.1 Jannik Sinner has once again gotten the better of Novak Djokovic in a thrilling three-set semifinal at the Six Kings Slam. The Italian secured a 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 win, extending his winning streak against the Serbian to four matches (official and unofficial).
The win at the Six Kings Slam won’t count in their overall head-to-head record, as the tournament is an exhibition. Djokovic received a direct entry to the semifinals alongside Rafael Nadal, while Sinner had to qualify for the last four after beating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.
Sinner continued his strong form in the Middle East, winning the first set 6-2 in under half an hour. Djokovic, who hadn’t broken the World No.1 in their last two matches, broke Sinner in the second set but quickly lost the advantage. However, the 24-time Grand Slam champion played a flawless tiebreak, winning all seven points.
Sinner broke in the first game of the final set but soon gave the advantage back to Djokovic, who appeared to be struggling with his shoulder. Nevertheless, the Italian regained control in the closing moments, securing a break and winning the final set 6-4.
Daniil Medvedev considers Jannik Sinner his toughest opponent
Daniil Medvedev once considered Carlos Alcaraz the best player right now, but his view changed after facing Jannik Sinner in the Six Kings Slam quarterfinals in Riyadh. On Wednesday, October 16, Sinner defeated Medvedev 6-0, 6-3 in just 68 minutes at The Venue.
Medvedev has played Alcaraz eight times but won only twice. He also lost all three matches against the Spaniard this year, which led him to think Alcaraz was the top player. However, he did not expect to be handed a bagel by Sinner. The World No.1 has now won eight of his last nine matches against Medvedev.
Before Riyadh, Sinner and Medvedev met in the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals, where Sinner won and went on to claim the title. While this match won’t count in their official ATP record, Sinner and Medvedev are now tied 7-7 in head-to-head meetings.
Sinner also became the first player to give Medvedev a bagel since 2020. This season, the two have met five times on the ATP Tour, with Sinner winning four, except for their Wimbledon quarterfinal clash.
