World No. 1 Jannik Sinner bowed out of the 2024 Canada Masters after losing to Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. The 22-year-old looked in pain with his hip causing trouble.
Sinner was unsure about competing at the Cincinnati Masters after the injury scare in Montreal. However, the reigning Australian Open champion has stated there was nothing to worry about and that he was ready to compete in Cincinnati.
The Italian has stated that he is confident in his body and is excited about getting back on the court once again.
I feel quite good. Obviously, I made nearly one week without practicing before and then after playing for two, three days in a row, a bit more than usual, [that] could [have had] a potential impact to the hip. But I'm not afraid. I feel good with the hip, and I'm just looking forward to go back on court here.Jannik Sinner said in the pre-tournament press conference (H/T: ATP Tour)
While Sinner rues his missed chance at the Paris Olympics where he could not play due to tonsillitis, he stated that he does not want to focus on the negatives. The World No.1 also said that he was very happy about how the season has panned out for him so far.
Jannik Sinner looks to end the season on a high
Jannik Sinner started the 2024 season by clinching his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. He built on that success by winning the titles in Rotterdam and Miami.
Sinner also made it to the semifinals at Indian Wells and Monte-Carlo. He then backed it with a quarterfinal run in Madrid before making it to the semifinals at Roland Garros and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. The Italian also captured his first title on grass in Halle this year.
With the season entering the business end, Sinner wants to end the year on a high. After the disappointment in Canada, he is determined to do well in Cincinnati, where he has not reached the semifinals even once in four attempts.
Here [in Cincinnati] usually I struggle a little bit to play because of the conditions, but I'm looking forward to see my reaction this year, because it's a great test for me. I believe that this tournament can give you a lot of confidence then for the US Open, which is the last Grand Slam we have throughout the year. So in my mind, this is a very important tournament.Jannik Sinner said
The Italian is aware of the importance this tournament holds. He wants to utilize the Cincinnati Masters to prepare better for the year’s last Grand Slam tournament – the US Open.
