World No.1 Jannik Sinner added another title to his name when he beat Hubert Hurkacz in the final of the Halle Open on Sunday (June 23). Doing so, he won his first tournament as the No.1 player, becoming just the eighth player (since 1973) to clinch a trophy as a top player in the ATP Rankings.
The match was not easy for Sinner as it took him an hour and 50 minutes to beat the Pole with scores of 7-6(10-8), 7-6(7-2). Sinner is now 3-2 in their head-to-head meetings.

It means a lot. It was a tough match against Hubi. I knew I had to serve really well, and you played only a couple of really important points throughout the whole set. So I was happy, and I tried to produce in the best possible way in the important moments. I’m very happy about this tournament because [winning for] the first time on grass court, it's a good feeling.Jannik Sinner said after the match
It wasn’t smooth sailing for the World No.1 in the tournament, for he lost a set in his first three matches. In the quarterfinals against Jan-Lennard Struff, Sinner was on the brink of defeat but somehow battled past the World No. 41. The Halle Open was Sinner’s fourth title of the season, having won the Australian Open, ATP Rotterdam, and Miami Open.
Fans react to Jannik Sinner’s victory in Halle Open over Hubert Hurkacz
The win was also Jannik Sinner‘s first on grass court and his 14th career title. He won all his three previous ATP 500 tournaments, having previously won in Beijing, Vienna, and Rotterdam. Also, he became the only player after Roger Federer to win the Halle Open as World No.1. Fans on X have nothing but praise for the 22-year-old Italian.

He does reminds me of Roger in many ways … long life as no. 1!!!
Not to mention losing to a Spaniard at RG, another event RF did quite well in

SINNER is the favourite for 2024 Wimbledon. Winning Halle has made him the frontrunner for Wimbledon.

A world number 1 that I can fully support.

A breath of fresh air. ????
Are we back in the Sinner era? It's pretty hard to keep up with the interchangeable "best player in the world" accolades between Sinner and Alcaraz depending on the latest tournament.

Sinner arrived in Halle after his Roland Garros semifinal loss to Carlos Alcaraz (who went on to win the tournament). Instead of the Halle Open, Alcaraz decided to play the Queen’s Club Championship to defend his title but shockingly lost in his second round to home favorite Jack Draper.
Both the players, Sinner and Alcaraz, will now be walking onto the grass courts of the Wimbledon Championships as the heavy favorites. The Spaniard will be aiming to defend his crown, for he defeated Novak Djokovic in five sets last year. Sinner, on the other hand, did his best at the SW19 last year by advancing to the semifinals, which he lost to Djokovic.
