Jannik Sinner was seeking to make his mark at the Paris Masters after winning the Shanghai Masters. However, he has announced his withdrawal from the event due to an intestinal virus. The World No. 1 will be replaced by Frenchman Arthur Cazaux in the draw.

Sinner has been arguably the best player this season and has seven titles to show for it. Since becoming World No. 1 in June, he has won four titles, including the US Open and two Masters 1000 titles.

Sinner has already cemented himself as year-end World No. 1 after beating Novak Djokovic to claim the Shanghai Masters. He has also qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin which will get underway on November 10.

In a video posted on social media, Sinner revealed that he was disappointed about not participating in the Paris Masters because of illness. He stated that he would recover soon and said that he was looking forward to taking part in the tournament next year.

I’m very disappointed to tell you that I am not able to play here at this tournament. I came here very early to prepare and then I felt sick. Have a virus at the moment, which will pass in the next two or three days. Body-wise, I am not ready to compete. I am very sorry for that. I will see you guys [in Paris] next year. Hopefully, it will be a great year. And this year – without me. Hopefully, I’ll see you next year.

Jannik Sinner said

Sinner will only lose 90 points for not competing at the Paris Masters. However, the points cannot be underestimated, as it gives his rival Alcaraz the chance to close the gap if he wins the title.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealing Sinner’s doping case at the Court of Arbitration (CAS) has caused tennis fans to judge Sinner more strictly. After the Paris Masters withdrawal, they took a dig at the Italian for skipping the event and stated that he was fleeing from another doping scandal.

Here are some of the fan reactions to SInner’s Paris Masters withdrawal:

Sinner will hope to be fit for the ATP Finals in Turin in November. The 23-year-old was heavily backed by the Italian crowd last year at the event but finished as runner-up after losing to Novak Djokovic.
