Jannik Sinner has responded to the trending hairstyle of Carlos Alcaraz at this year’s US Open. The Spaniard has gone bald this year at Flushing Meadows, generating mixed reactions from the tennis fraternity.
Sinner, who recently retired in the Cincinnati Open final against Alcaraz, said that every hairstyle will look good on his great rival. The duo are battling it out for the World No.1 spot this year at the US Open. Sinner said in his post-match press conference:
No [laughs], but look. For him everything looks good. If it’s longer or even if it’s very short.
Sinner was also asked about potentially having a similar hairline of his own. The Italian, showing his great sense of humor, came up with a brilliant answer. He added:
Well the good thing is they would not even recognize me. I have a huge amount of hair. You will see, in 3 days, his hair will be back very fast.
Sinner and Alcaraz have been the benchmark of modern tennis. Despite not starting the year as the World No.1 and 2, the duo have picked up their form during the clay season and taken it to another level during Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Sinner and Alcaraz have won the last seven Grand Slam titles. However, it is Alcaraz who has dominated their matchups recently, winning six of their seven matches since 2024.
Carlos Alcaraz kicks off US Open campaign
Carlos Alcaraz has explained the reason behind his new haircut at the US Open, admitting it was actually his brother’s mistake. The Spaniard debuted a fresh buzz cut in New York, which quickly caught the attention of fans and media.

On the court, Alcaraz made a strong start to his campaign. He defeated American Reilly Opelka 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in straight sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium. His clean performance ensured smooth passage into the second round.
Reactions to his new look were mixed, with some fans surprised by the drastic change. During his post-match interview, Alcaraz jokingly brought up the haircut himself. He asked the crowd for their opinion, which was met with loud cheers.
The world No. 2 seemed pleased with the response and laughed off the situation. While his hairstyle became a talking point, his tennis did the real talking as he began his US Open campaign with confidence.
Jannik Sinner begins US Open title defense
World No.1 Jannik Sinner began his US Open title defence with a dominant performance on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The top seed swept aside Czech player Vit Kopriva 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 in just under two hours. It was a confident return after he was forced to retire in the Cincinnati final earlier this month.

The Italian looked sharp from the start, moving freely and striking the ball with depth and accuracy. Kopriva was unable to handle the pace and precision of Sinner’s groundstrokes. Their meeting marked the first time the two had faced each other on the ATP Tour. Despite a short medical timeout for a finger issue late in the match, the defending champion closed it out comfortably.
Sinner has now claimed victory in the past three hard-court majors, winning the Australian Open in both 2024 and 2025, and lifting the US Open trophy in 2024. He is targeting his fifth Grand Slam overall and his third of the year. In the next round, he will face either Alexei Popyrin or Emil Ruusuvuori.
The win also keeps Sinner in the hunt for the world No. 1 ranking. His closest rival, Carlos Alcaraz, can reclaim the top spot if he matches or surpasses Sinner’s performance in New York. For Sinner to remain in contention, he must progress to at least the third round.
