Jannik Sinner finished his 2025 season with six titles from 10 finals, while last year, he took home eight from nine finals. According to him, he played better than last season despite the title tally.
Sinner, following the Australian Open, stayed on the sidelines for three months. In spite of no competition, when Sinner returned to the tour at the Italian Open, he ended up playing the final, losing the match to Carlos Alcaraz. It was the Spaniard who locked horns with him in five more finals (French Open, Wimbledon, Cincinnati Masters, US Open, and the ATP Finals).
Last year has been an amazing season. This year, making four Grand Slam finals, coming here, winning here, having this big streak in end of the year, it’s amazing. But mostly I feel to be a better player than last year, I think this is the most important. It’s all part of the process. I always say and believe that if you keep working and trying to be a better player, the results they’re going to come.
Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev to defend his Australian Open crown, following which, he suffered probably the biggest heartbreak when he lost the French Open final to Alcaraz. After his revenge win over the six-time Grand Slam champion at Wimbledon, Sinner failed to defend his US Open title.
Honestly, amazing season, no? Many, many wins, and not many losses. All the losses I had, I tried to see the positive thing and trying to evolve me as a player. I feel like, or I felt like this happened in a very good way. I’m extremely happy with the season.

The four-time Grand Slam champion also took home two ATP 500 titles at the China Open and the Vienna Open. He then ended his Masters 1000 drought by winning the Paris Masters for the first time.
Despite defending his ATP Finals title, the 24-year-old will end the season as a No.2 player thanks to Alcaraz’s eight titles from 11 finals. Sinner remained on top for about a week after his Paris Masters win. The South Tyrol native, following the year-end event, has now improved his head-to-head record over the six-time Grand Slam champion to 6-10.
Mark Petchey on Jannik Sinner’s win over Carlos Alcaraz
En route to defending his ATP Finals crown, Jannik Sinner did not drop a single set and was only broken once, against Carlos Alcaraz in the second set. Reacting to Sinner’s performance, Emma Raducanu‘s former coach Mark Petchey made a comment about Sinner’s service games.

And I thought that Jannik did a nice job on his second serve today, even though the first serve wasn’t behaving as it should have done today, I thought he’d protected his second serve much better than he did at the US Open.
Because he was undefeated, Sinner pocketed a record $5,071,000 in prize money. Last year as well, Sinner did not drop a set throughout the tournament. The title was Sinner’s fourth Big Title of the season, following the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the Paris Masters.
It was also Sinner’s 11th Big Title as he is now on a 31-match winning streak on indoor hardcourts, with his last defeat coming at the hands of Novak Djokovic in the championship clash of the 2023 ATP Finals.
Only Djokovic, Roger Federer, and John McEnroe have won more matches on the surface than Sinner. Sinner has also become the third player to win the ATP Finals on home soil, following America’s McEnroe and Germany’s Boris Becker.
He will not be playing the Davis Cup Finals, which starts on November 18. The Italian wants an extra week off before starting his pre-season training.
