Jannik Sinner often describes himself as thoughtful, calm, and humble. His words and demeanor reflect those qualities whenever he speaks. In a recent interview ahead of the 2025 US Open, he opened up more personally, offering insights into his character and outlook on life.

Speaking with international media, including Corriere della Sera, Sinner revealed a more intimate side. Although he is one of tennis’s biggest stars, much about him remains a mystery to the wider public. He has achieved great success, handled difficult situations, and managed to stay away from controversy. Sinner said on Corriere Italia:

I watch a lot of tennis, analyze my opponents, and always watch videos of my competitors the day before facing them. My team helps me a lot before the match, but during the matches, I still believe that the player must find the solutions because there are situations in which you don’t trust what they tell you from the outside. Accepting my flaws was key.

His calm approach and reflective nature stood out during the interview, providing a rare glimpse of his personality away from competition. Sinner’s perspective on tennis and life continues to set him apart, giving fans a deeper appreciation for his journey.

This year, he enters the US Open as the top seed and defending champion. With Carlos Alcaraz close behind in the rankings, Sinner must defend both his title and his world No. 1 status. Last year, he lifted the trophy by defeating Taylor Fritz in the final, and he now looks to repeat that success under even greater pressure.

Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek enter US Open as the betting favorites

World No.1 Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek head into the 145th US Open as the top betting favorites. The tournament begins Sunday in New York, with both players aiming to extend their dominance at the majors. Sinner, last year’s champion, is listed at +105 to defend his crown. Carlos Alcaraz follows at +180, while Novak Djokovic sits further back at +1200. Among the Americans, Ben Shelton leads the way at +2000.

Sinner and Alcaraz have combined to win the last seven Grand Slam titles. Sinner in particular has owned the hard courts, capturing the last three majors on the surface. His only concern is fitness after he retired in last week’s Cincinnati Open final against Alcaraz while trailing 5-0 due to illness.

On the women’s side, Swiatek has narrowly overtaken defending champion Aryna Sabalenka as the betting favorite. Swiatek is priced at +250, with Sabalenka just behind at +280. The Polish star ended a long title drought at Wimbledon, where she stormed through the draw and won 20 straight games to clinch her first grass-court Slam.

Coco Gauff carries American hopes in the women’s draw with odds of +800. Behind her are Madison Keys at +1800, Amanda Anisimova at +2200, and Jessica Pegula at +2800. Pegula reached last year’s final but fell in straight sets to Sabalenka, and she will be looking to go one step further this time.

How many points Jannik Sinner loses heading into the US Open?

Top seed Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz face the biggest risks at the 2025 US Open, while Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Ben Shelton have the most to gain. The 2024 final featured Sinner and Fritz, with the Italian claiming the title. That victory earned him 2,000 ranking points, while Fritz collected 1,300 as the runner-up.

Since the ATP system runs on a 52-week cycle, both players now need to defend those points. Once the tournament begins, the points they earned last year are removed from their totals. Their progress at Flushing Meadows this year will decide how much they regain and whether their ranking positions shift.

For Sinner, the defending champion, the drop has already impacted his standing. He currently sits at 9,490 points in the live rankings, just behind Alcaraz, who holds 9,550. Both men have received 10 points simply for appearing in the first round.

If Sinner wins again in New York, his total will jump to 11,480 points and secure his No. 1 status. Anything less than another title run, however, gives Alcaraz a clear chance to reclaim the top ranking at the season’s final Grand Slam.
