The World No. 10, Matteo Berrettini recognised Jannik Sinner for the champion that he is. At the 37th spot, Sinner is the fourth-highest ranked Italian in the ATP charts. Further, he is the only teenager to be ranked inside the Top-100 at the moment.

With his maiden ATP title win at the Sofia Open, he became the first male player to reach the quarter-finals on debut at the French Open since Rafael Nadal.

He is making huge waves as he sports one of the most monstrous forehands around the tour. With it, however, Sinner displays a calm and collective attitude at all times. This hasn’t gone unnoticed as countless have praised the 19-year-old. Most recently, Berrettini also spoke at length about his compatriot’s qualities.

In an interview with La Gazette Dello Sport, Berrettini stated, “Jannik Sinner is doing something impressive! He has an incredible maturity. At his age, I didn’t think of winning even a match. Let alone a tournament!”

The 24-year-old also believes that Sinner is following a carefully laid down plan. “It is clear that he is playing with an eye on the future,” he added.

Instead of being a flame that burns too quickly, Sinner is laying down his own foundation in the sport very carefully. His long-term vision for himself trumps any short-lived fame in the present.

“He is not interested in winning a point today. We see that every shot he plays is an investment. And this is the secret to reaching the top,” Matteo concluded.
