Jannik Sinner’s three-month suspension settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has continued to be a divisive topic among current and former tennis players. Despite WADA’s explanation and claims the different opinions have narrowed down to the fan base. Sinner’s lawyer, Jamie Singer, has slammed ATP stars for being unfair towards the issue.

Sinner’s doping controversy began when the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that the World No.1 tested positive twice for clostebol. It added that after an independent investigation, the Italian star was exonerated from all charges after he defended that the banned substance inadvertently entered his system.

However, WADA then appealed the verdict to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), seeking that Sinner be suspended for at least one or two years. The case hearing was slated to begin in April but surprisingly last week the anti-doping agency announced that they had agreed with Sinner for a three-month suspension settlement.

That didn’t go well with many ATP stars, including Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic who believed favoritism was at play in the agreement. Nonetheless, Sinner’s lawyer, Singer, said that the player’s treatment of the Italian stars doping saga has been unfair.

I think tennis players are always hawks when another player is involved in a similar situation and try to hide when they are involved. This is all very unfair. Sinner was judged in a ‘textbook’ trial from the beginning. There was no favoritism . It was just the circumstances of his positive test that were very unusual. Jannik says he feels he was treated quite harshly, but he accepts that everyone has the right to their own opinion. Tennis players do not have the opportunity to know all the details of the story, so they simply express opinions.

Sinner will take the suspension as a good time to rest and engage in other activities before returning to the court at the Italian Open. He will also be eligible to play at the 2025 French Open.

Jannik Sinner’s lawyer says the Italian was convinced to accept WADA’s settlement

The doping saga has been a heavy weight on Jannik Sinner‘s shoulder for the past four months. However, he has been able to manage the situation by playing his best on the court, which has made him grow in confidence. In fact, he has won four titles, including two Grand Slams since his doping case was announced.

His lawyer, Jamie Singer, was asked about how he dealt about the case. He said that the Italian star felt been treated harshly but had to accept WADA’s offer instead of going to the Court of Arbitration for Sports.

It took some time to convince Sinner that the case resolution was the right thing to do. Accepting Wada’s offer rather than going to the CAS (where he would have risked a one to two year disqualification) He says he feels that he’s been treated quite harshly, but he accepts that everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.

Jamie Singer added

Sinner’s suspension began on February 9 and will end on May 4. The World No.1 will likely hold on to his ranking position until he returns to the court.
