Jannik Sinner is likely to message Carlos Alcaraz if Italy wins the Euro Cup Group B match against Spain, scheduled on June 20. To watch the match, Alcaraz even talked about making a request to the Queen’s Club Championships organizers to make him play against British No.1 Jack Draper (which he lost) before the start of the Italy versus Spain match.
Sinner, on the other hand, will not be watching along with the Italian players on Tour because he needs his “space to watch alone.” The World No.1 also revealed that there is no football-related trash-talking with other players on the Tour. His rival, Alcaraz, will be supporting Spain and may get a message from Sinner if the latter’s country wins.
Usually, there is always some talking. Trash-talking, no, but talking yes. It’s actually quite exciting and fun, but it also shows how big football is. Everyone will watch, so it is going to be fun. No, I will never do that… [Pauses to laugh and grins]… Maybe!Jannik Sinner told ATP Tour
Sinner, who lost to Alcaraz in the Roland Garros semifinal in five sets, is playing in the Hale Open and beat Tallon Griekspoor in three sets in his first round. The 22-year-old next faced Fabian Marozsan and beat him in three sets as well.
Jannik Sinner feels football is easier to play
Jannik Sinner is no stranger to football, for he played and loved the sport when he was a kid and preferred football and skiing over playing tennis. He finds the game interesting as it involves traveling with teammates and meeting their families.
Because I also played a little bit when I was young, and I really loved the sport. It’s great because you have teammates, and you travel with the teammates and a lot of the families. It is a team sport, so if you are friends all together, it is a little bit easier to play.Jannik Sinner told ATP Tour
Sinner also revealed he sometimes plays FIFA with fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego. And about his favorite footballer from Italy, is goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Coming back to tennis, Sinner recently became World No.1 on the ATP Tour, the first player to achieve it from Italy. He was guaranteed his ranking after 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic failed to defend 2000 points by not reaching the final as he pulled out of the Roland Garros quarterfinals against Casper Ruud due to a knee injury.
